[REQ] Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS, Windows or Bios problem?
Videos
Hey Asus folks,
I'm hoping for some anecdotal evidence from the community of wether or not a new Ryzen 5000 series CPU would post on an Asus TUF X570 Gaming Plus motherboard with a BIOS version of 2407.
I ask because I'm expecting my 5800x soon(ish), and just received my motherboard which isn't updated to the latest BIOS. If the CPU can't post, I won't be able to boot into Windows and Update the BIOS. I also don't have an older Ryzen CPU so won't be able to boot this way either.
My last resort will be bringing the motherboard into a local IT shop and have them update the BIOS. I'd like to save the time and money if I know for certain my new Ryzen CPU would be able to Post, and I can update the motherboard myself.
Any advice would be appreciated.
i am new to pc building, and I have been told i need to update my bios for my 5600x but i dont have any old CPUs i can use. if I have the update ready in a flash drive, can I stick on the cpu on my motherboard then boot up the system and update it? or will that damage my cpu
Yes, i'm a newbie.
If your motherboard can do that it'll have a button and a specific port you have to plug the usb into. Like this
One thing to note is that the usb normally needs to be formatted as FAT32 and the bios has to be named something specific (that you can find in the manual)
If your motherboard doesn't have the button you'll need to get an alternate CPU or a boot kit from AMD
Does anybody know if Asus has released the bios update that supports the 5000 series chips? I had a look on their website under support and whilst there was a load of bios updates It wasn’t clear to me if 5000 compatible or not.
i am new to AMD, so i dont have any old CPUs i can use. basically i bought the above mobo about 2 weeks ago, and i was wanting to get a 5800x in a few weeks. but from what i understand i would need a bios with the 1.0.8.0 AGESA updated bios, and from what i can tell that board does to CPU-less bios updates
how can i find out if the above has the 2607 [2020/08/17] bios update installed without a CPU? for all i know this mobo could have been sitting on a shelf for 6 months b4 being sold. Will it let me into the bios if the bios version does have the above as a minimum?
or should i cut my losses and just get a 3800x instead..
as you can tell i dont build pc's very often
I'm pretty sure the Asus Tuf has EZ flash. You can update the BIOS using a usb stick without a cpu, at least you could on the older boards.
I actually bought and then returned that exact same motherboard because of the dilemma you've hit. I ended up buying the TUF Gaming B550 Plus instead. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/TUF-GAMING-B550-PLUS/
Without USB Flashback, you'll have to either buy a cheap, supported CPU to flash with and then...resell I guess. OR, in the past AMD has shipped out special CPU kits via a warranty claim specifically to address this sort of thing. You just needed to supply proof of purchase of your new CPU. No idea if they're gonna do that again though. AFAIK it hasn't been announced.
