Bios Settings for ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme
Videos
Hi everyone,
I’m building my first PC and need expert advice to set it up correctly and optimize performance without frying anything. I’ve got a high-end setup for multitasking, rendering (e.g., Blender), and heavy graphics work (video editing, 3D modeling), but I’m a total newbie with BIOS settings and overclocking. Below are my components and questions about tweaking the ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E BIOS for stability and performance. Please guide me step-by-step and let me know if I’m missing anything or risking damage!
My Build
-
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi
-
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
-
RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MHz CL30 (CMK64GX5M2B6000Z30)
-
SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 1TB (PCIe Gen4 NVMe) – System Disk "C"
-
Cooler: Be Quiet! Silent Loop 3 (360mm AIO, mounted on top as exhaust)
-
PSU: Corsair RM1000x (1000W)
-
Case: Antec Flux Pro
-
Usage: Multitasking, rendering, heavy graphics work (video editing, 3D modeling).
Optimizing BIOS Settings for Performance
I want to tweak the ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E BIOS for max performance and stability, especially for rendering and multitasking. I’ve based this on the ASUS BIOS manual (Dec 2024) and some Reddit research, but I’m unsure about the steps. Here’s my plan—please confirm each step and answer my questions!
EXPO Settings (Memory Optimization)
-
Plan:
-
Boot, press Del/F2 to enter BIOS, then F7 for Advanced Mode.
-
Go to “Ai Tweaker” > “Ai Overclock Tuner” > Select “EXPO I” to set RAM to 6000MHz (CL30-38-38-76 per Corsair specs).
-
Leave “DRAM Timing Control” on Auto.
-
-
Question: Is “EXPO I” on Auto safe for my Corsair RAM?
CPU Settings (PBO Optimization)
-
Plan:
-
Go to “Ai Tweaker” > “AMD Overclocking” > “Precision Boost Overdrive” > Set to “Enabled”.
-
Leave “Core Performance Boost” on Auto.
-
-
Question: Is “Enabled” safe for a newbie, or something else?
M.2 Settings (SSD Configuration)
-
Plan:
-
Go to “Advanced” > “NVMe Configuration” > Ensure M.2_1 (Samsung 990 Pro) is detected.
-
Set to “Auto” (assuming it defaults to Gen4 since 990 Pro is Gen4).
-
-
Question: Is “Auto” correct for M.2_1, or should I force Gen4 in “PCI Subsystem Settings”? Does M.2_1 affect GPU lanes (PCIe x16 slot)?
Fan and Cooling Settings (Silent Loop 3)
-
Question: Are these curves good for better performance (keeping < 85°C)? What’s the best choice here for performance, silence, or balance?
Power Settings
-
Plan: Leave defaults (no manual TDP tweaks).
-
Question: Any power settings worth tweaking later for more rendering performance (e.g., TDP or PBO limits)?
Save and Test
-
Plan: Save with F10, reboot, test with Cinebench R23, monitor temps (<85°C) with HWMonitor.
-
Question: Is Cinebench enough to test stability, or should I use another tool (e.g., Prime95, Blender benchmark)?
Additional Settings
-
Boot: “Boot” > “CSM” > “Disabled” for UEFI mode with Samsung 990 Pro.
-
Secure Boot: “Boot” > “Secure Boot” > “OS Type” > “Windows UEFI Mode” for future Windows install.
-
Question: Are these boot settings correct? Any other tweaks for rendering/graphics work (e.g., virtualization, PCIe settings)?
Please check if my BIOS steps are safe and complete—I’m terrified of burning anything! I’d really appreciate detailed replies with step-by-step guidance.
Thanks in advance!
Are there any common/typical/essential BIOS settings people change on a new build like this? I think there are a few I need to change, one for the RAM possibly(EXPO?) Here is a list of what I put together. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version already. Again, looking for suggestions of what BIOS settings need changed from the default. Not looking to overclock, just the basics.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
GPU: MSI Suprim GeForce RTX 5090 (Suprim Liquid SOC edition)
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo 96GB DDR5-6000
Storage: Crucial T710 2TB Gen5 NVMe SSD
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 AIO
Case: Fractal Design Meshify 3 XL
PSU: Seasonic Prime TX-1600W
1.Update AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.3.0.1.
2.Improve compatibility and performance for Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processors.
3.Add new Crosshair Tweak items for advanced performance tuning (available on select models).
Note: This BIOS version cannot be rolled back to previous versions.
I recently got the X870E Carbon Wifi for my 9800X3D and going through the BIOS settings, I see:
. X3D Gaming Mode . Optimized Performance Profile . Latency Killer . High Efficiency Mode
Which ones should I turn on or leave off?
