On average, we make around 10k net profit monthly, but it varies—a good month can hit 40k, while a bad one can dip to -5k. It’s definitely not consistent, even with a team and a system testing multiple products daily. What helps us is using spy tools, but not the ones everyone’s using. We always look for those flying under the radar. Right now, we use SpyTrends.net and found our last four winners there. Hope that helps, good luck. Answer from Amine_ik on reddit.com

So obviously I want a passive income like everyone else, and drop shipping appears as this fantastic way, but before I invest anymore time in it, can I hear from some redditors who’s making how much, as when you YouTube them, they either make millions or nothing, there’s no in between

A few comments here are saying XX% never make money etc. I don’t know if that’s true, but I do know I started a while ago with 0 knowledge or experience in anything to do with it, and now I’m making money with it. Fair to say I have put in a lot of work, and learned everything from one of/ the best place. But I simply wouldn’t believe anyone if they said they’d honestly tried for a year and made no money. I don’t see how that would be possible, if they were actually trying. It’s not ‘passive’ income though. It’s not loads of work like 12 hour days either, unless you choose it to be, but it’s not necessary. You do need to put in some work every day if you really want it to keep growing. Business and your skills.

I understand why "gurus" sells dropshipping as passive income, because people are looking for a way to earns millions of billions without doing anything at all. So to everyone that wants to start with dropshipping because you think that will automagically earn money while you sleep without putting in tons of work: You won't. I'm not into dropshipping myself, I'm into affiliate marketing and blogging, but I understand dropshipping and what it takes to succeed. "Gurus" in blogging sells the same "passive income" dream. "Start a blog and earn money while you sleep". My sites earns around $2000/mo and I haven't worked on them for a couple of months. They are pretty passive right now. But I put hundreds of hours into my sites before I got to this point. In the beginning (first 1-2 years) my "hourly rate" was probably less than $1. So much work and not so much money. For the first 9-12 months I was loosing money because domain, hosting, plugins, etc. costed more than I earned. But then when it takes off and you learn how to do things better/faster etc, and you will start to earn more and more with less work. Now I've made maybe $40k in total and spent maybe 400 hours in total. But next month it's $42k, then $44k, etc (and still slowly growing because SEO takes time). I can also sell my sites for a 35-40x multiplier, that is around $70-80k in the bank the day I don't want to keep them anymore. When I look at that hourly rate for my work, that is "passive income" for me. Not that you don't have to work at all, but that you don't exchange time for a fixed amount of money like you do if you work for a salary. Lets say I earn around $4000/mo at my job, but if I don't show up, I don't get my salary. If I don't work on my sites (which I haven't done for a couple of months) I still earn money. People that earns good money from dropshipping (or basically anything "passive") have almost always put in sooo much time to get there, especially in the beginning. Another comment here talked about working 12 hour days, and that is what it takes to compete, especially today when so many people wants to do dropshipping. I started my first site in December 3,5 years ago, and when it was 7 months old that summer, I had a 4 weeks vacation, and I spent maybe 3 weeks working from when I woke up till late nights on my site. And that was when I was still loosing money on it because it costed more than I earned... That is like "anti-passive income" at that stage 😅 But I'm glad that I didn't stop working on them. So TLDR: If you want to succeed with dropshipping (or anything else "passive"), be very prepared to spend a lot of time learning and doing stuff in the beginning. You will probably do some things wrong and learn from it. But you will 100% guaranteed spend more time then you think before it starts to get "passive".

I’ve seen a lot of people claiming they make $100k+ per day through dropshipping, but if it’s that profitable, why are they selling courses instead of just focusing on scaling their own businesses? Do they really make money from dropshipping, or is most of their income coming from selling the courses?

Also, is dropshipping something you can actually live off of, or is it more of a side hustle while working a 9 to 5? I’ve heard margins can be really low, so I’m wondering if it’s even sustainable long-term. I’d love to hear from anyone with real experience in this industry!

You're 100% right. I put a solid 2 years into trying to get dropshipping to work. I was convinced that I was just 1 'winning product' away from success 😆 I even ended up paying agencies for help, but they ended up being low effort drop servicing bros... who outsourced all the work to cheap fiverr gigs. The only people who seem to be making money from dropshipping are the YouTube 'gurus', course sellers, spy apps etc.. They're selling shovels for a gold rush that ended years ago... The main issue is that people don't need to buy from random little weird stores that appear on Facebook. They've either been burned by lazy dropshippers, scammed by one of the thousands of fraud ads on Facebook, or are savvy enough to just go to aliexpress, TEMu, wish etc to get the same junk item for a much better price. Tough love but I hate seeing people donate MORE money to that Zuckerberg asshole. I ended up working 2 extra part time jobs and also did an indiegogo crowdfunding campaign so I could manufacture my own products in a profitable but 'uncool' niche. That was a couple of years ago and next year I'm expecting to hit 6 or maybe even 7 figures if my plans for 2024 work out. I'm 51 and basically unemployable due to being autistic and ADHD. If I can do it, any of you guys can. Especially with all of the AI and other amazing tools available now 😀

Yeah, I’ve been making a profit for the last seven years. I think the biggest mistake people make is targeting the wrong market. Avoid the big ones—CPMs are too high, and conversions aren’t like they used to be in the early dropshipping days. Instead, try markets like the Netherlands/Belgium (NL/BE), Scandinavia (NO/SW/FI), or Southern Europe (PT, IT, ES). Not every product’s a winner there, but your chances are definitely higher. Also, I’d skip popular spy tools like Minea or Pipiads—too many people browsing the same ads. I personally use SpyTrends.net It’s still relatively unknown, and their method for spotting winners is pretty unique. Found my last two there. Good luck!

I see a lot of anecdotal stories that seem too good to be true: start from nothing, earn 10k per week within 2 years.

  • Suppose someone were to start with 1,000$ - will you breakthrough or just end up loosing it all?

  • How much money does one have to invest to get the business to run reliably?

  • What all do you need? A website, advertising, bulk buying deals etc.?

  • What are some very important tips that are often ignored in online courses / Youtube tutorials?

For those that have managed to dropship successfully, I want to hear the real stories that led you there, including all the negatives and potential pitfalls.

Start affiliate marketing and understand e-commerce. Shopify collab and TikTok shop is good start. Amazon influencer program is amazing Then dabble in dropshipping. Trust me even if you are successful it is a complete nightmare handeling back office work. Customer service , chargeback fraud, inventory issues , paying your bills. You know stuff you never hear about

A lot of people below are giving basic start-up costs, but you'll find as you go there a lot to learn, and a lot of great tools to help blossom your business. Because in everyone's goal is to create a legit business that doesn't get sued here are some costs (CAD) to consider: - business license (in Canada think it costs $50 for Sole Prop, vs $300 for Corporation) -Lawyer and accounting fees, you may want some help deciding which business license to take, and the accounting that's involved. -Business Bank Account. Free, but certain business accounts cost monthly. -Technology (Shopify) starting cost is $1 for 3 Months, than another $400 for annual minimum. Theme cost around $50-$100. You may want to invest in SEO, freelance design, or spend on Ads - do your own research, along with Apps to better improve your site's performance and usability such tools as Email marketing / automation, etc. -Other Tools such as Canva, Designer tools, Stock images. Above is probably more money you'll need to spend in the first year if you're serious about the business. But if you're just starting off, $1 is enough. Shopify has amazing support and community that help you with your sale with $1 but I just gave you a list of things that you may also consider while growing.

Honestly, I tried on and off for 2-3 years but with really low effort. Had like 1-2 sales on a store. Stopped and tried again after 3 months. Never been profitable. Started in May this year very serious and consistenly working on 1 store with all the knowledge and skills I acquired from previous failed stores. Made 1,8k in revenue last month. With profit this time. Not much but was happy to be profitable. Could make even more If I applied some strategies on the back end but lost some motivation and got lazy. It's a really hard business model where you really got to want it.. Hard work is not enough. You have to be persisent after each setback ( You will get many ) and you have to even be willing to lose sleep. Even relationships could take a hit because I worked constantly and didn't give many attention to my gf and thats not good. And oh yeah be willing to lose money in the process..

There are no set numbers that are likely; your products, store, marketing, experience, effort etc. will all play into it... plus a little luck (which isn't luck, it's just those previous things coming into play without you knowing/planning it). Anyway, my last venture: Month 1: 10k revenue / 8k spent / 2k profit Months 2-6: 50k revenue/ 20k spent / 30k profit Months 7-12: 70k revenue / 22k spent / 48k profit Useful to note I did not need 8k to get started; sales started to come when I had not spent anything on marketing, just the cost of the domain. When sales came in, I would immediately re-invest. Plus there were a few teething issues with returns, which hit my wallet quite hard as I didn't handle them correctly. Things hitting a plateau around 6 months was not due to lack of opportunity; it could have kept multiplying quite rapidly, however I took on a full-time salaried role around the 5 month mark due to personal reasons. This is ultimately why I closed down the store just after a year; it took way too much time/attention and I really needed my "career" to remain sturdy at this point. I am planning to dive back in now I have some space and hope I can replicate the success I had previously, but keep it growing for longer. EDIT: I have had some DMs already and it's worth noting my full-time role is as UX Lead on some of the world's biggest brands. I have ~15 years of professional experience to help me do well and it's crucial. I tried dropshipping in 2006 as a dumb kid and made absolutely zero. Multiple times.

I hear a lot about dropshipping, but it seems like the only people saying it works are the people selling courses. Is there any real people profiting off of this, and is it truly passive income?

Top answer

This is not passive income. You need to do product research, ad research, marketing, fulfill orders, etc. Also, dropshipping is more like arbitrage with ads. If you can get your ads down as well as have the spending to back it, yes, you can be profitable. I'm sure some of the courses provide value but not enough to justify any cost. I'd recommend trial by fire. Start learning. Fail 4x. 5x. I failed 5+ times before I even made $100 profit in dropshipping. You need to learn what works and doesn't know how to build out a nice site, how to advertise your product properly, how to make sure your landing page converts, etc

Yes people are making money. The problem is people think this business is a get rich quick scheme, and start whining and crying when they actually have to put effort into their stores and learning how to operate them. These stupid youtube course salesmen don't help the problem, because they perpetuate this idea that your first store is going to be a success on day 1. Just like with any business, it takes years of practice, and years of failures to learn from. This isn't against you, OP, I appreciate you posting here because it's obvious that you and a lot of people need to hear this, but I'm honestly getting a little tired of the mountains of people who are here thinking dropshipping is the next big crypto-tier cash grab. I hate to break it to everyone, but drop shipping is just running a business. And any legitimate business requires hours and hours of daily work. It's not just a website you open up in 30 minutes to make passive income while you sit around playing video games.
