Not to say that leasing is inherently bad or that it doesn't have a place, but do not confuse lease payments with taking steps to own a vehicle (and gaining equity) through financing. I have a great, paid off car that I hardly use, last year I think I drove a total of less than 1000 miles. I usually walk everywhere or take public transportation options for errands, which are 99% local. I contemplate when my car reaches its 'end of life' if I will replace it. I've realized it would be much cheaper to rent a car or use a taxi when I need it instead of buying another car. This article drives that point home.
