Hello. Im a software developer with 4 years exp. I have 0 exp with cloud. What exams should i take to become certified devops engineer.

Start here to learn more about AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional : https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certified-devops-engineer-professional/ The path to get there can be varied and relies up on what your learning style is, your time commitment and how much you want to put into the learning journey etc. Step 1: The very first step into learning about AWS / Cloud is the Cloud Practitioner Cert. If you are a developer with 4 yrs experience, I do NOT recommend you do the certification exam BUT you should aim to go through the learning material atleast. This will be your "intro to cloud" - dont waste too much time on it. There are some YouTube videos that you can listen to at faster speed and finish in a few hours. Now - the next step that I am going to recommend may be different to others but hear me out. Step 2 : I then recommend you do the Solutions Architect Associate exam (SAA). Why this architecture exam rather than the SysOps / Dev route that most recommend? Because as a developer you will benefit from a very wide / broad coverage of all AWS services before you do anything else. This is the most solid foundation into AWS you can get and will hold you well in ANY further education. You may choose to not take the exam but the learning journey WILL help and IMHO its a better start than jumping into Dev Associate or SysOps directly. I think you should definitely take this exam and passing that will give you a boost mentally and every exam pass gives you a 50% off next exam. Step 3: Then I recommend the SysOps Associate cert: This has some overlap with SAA so you are going to benefit from it but this is a VERY hands on exam with a LAB element that will test your real skills building stuff rather than just rote memory of questions and answers. I would skip the current Developer Associate exam which as someone else pointed out is not really aimed at software development but using AWS's Code* tools and there is a new exam coming up which may be better as the previous course was ageing fast. For now - its not really required for your final journey. Step 4: Once you have strong fundamental knowledge of AWS services, know how to operate them via Console / can build stuff on AWS THEN you aim for the DevOps PRO exam. This is a hard exam and you will need to dedicate time to learning all the services / in scope but it is an awesome learning journey. February 17, 2023AWS Certification Path for DevOps – Need Advice
DOP builds on DVA + SOA. Most DOP courses assume you have done DVA & SOA. My recommendation is always to go through the full curriculum of DVA + SOA even if you do not want to take the actual exam. Do the video course. Do some practice exams. This builds up enough knowledge to take DOP. Pro level certs are way harder and need solid foundations and skipping the learning from DVA/SOA may lead to poor understanding. Build skills - not certs. SAA is a very strong foundation on top of which to build ANY AWS cert. So starting with SAA wont do any harm. So try SAA (Exam) + DVA (no exam) + SOA (no exam) + DOP (Deep dive + exam) Also for DevOps roles you need to dig deep into devops skills which are NOT what you learn via AWS Certs. You lean AWS tooling to do devops. So you still need a solid understanding of git / version control, linux, containers, some python scripting, some IAC (terraform), networking basics, troubleshooting basics (+ shell use), CI/CD etc. These are not taught in detail on AWS certs. The cloud practitioner one is completely useless. Just go straight to the associates and it's gonna be pretty much assumed that you'll know all the content in the cloud practitioner. Also, it'll be really difficult to get the AWS DevOps one if you don't do the Associate developer before. Do AWS Developer and AWS Associate Solutions Architect, get some hands on experience in aws while studying for K8 and terraform certs, and after having some hands on experience you can try the DevOps professional one. The professional one is gonna be at least twice as hard as the associates, so you should take more time to study for it. More on reddit.com
