GoDaddy wants $17.99/year for renewals, and I'm looking for alternatives. I don't have a problem using GoDaddy, but I'm just annoyed that I'm coming off a 10-year renewal that cost me $50 and now they want $90 for 5 years. It's become more a matter of principle at this point.
I love Azure, so I looked into their relatively new offering (which I later learned is fulfilled by GoDaddy). The advertised domain price for Azure is $11.99, but this article indicates you also need to pay for DNS. Pricing for those are $0.50 for the zone and $0.40 for the first billion requests per month. That would make the minimum cost for an Azure domain registration $22.79/year.
Am I missing something? Is there any benefit to using Azure for this?
