Since you're saying it's for a first birthday, maybe consider the Little People dolls and doll houses/etc. I have a 14 month old and a 3 year old and they play with the Little People toys. My son loves the school bus and dollhouse and my daughter likes the firetruck and farmhouse. And they have a huge range of diversity. We have a bunch of white, black, asian, and latino looking dolls. My son mostly just chews on them, at this age, but my daughter plays with them. She's got a couple Barbie's, they have their place in the world, but the Little People dolls are so much more practical for toddlers. More on reddit.com

April 23, 2020Does anyone else feel that baby dolls are really fucking weird toy to give your child? Like they’re are conditioning them to want a baby?
These baby doll toys are just so weird to me. Why would a child want to play with a freaking plastic baby anyway. God they’re just so fucking weird. Especially the ones that can “go potty”. And people think they’re normal and buy them for their kids!? And it’s always for young girls which annoys me as well, like they are conditioning their daughter to be a mother like that’s their only goal in life. The other day my boyfriends little 5 year old sister asked me how many kids I was going to have and I said none and she said you have to have at least one! And I said no you don’t... Why is a five year old thinking about having kids anyway? She has heaps of these baby doll things and little prams and shit for them and I think it’s kind of disgusting. I know this is a bit off topic for this sub but it’s so sexist as well, give your 5 year old daughter something creative to play with not a plastic fucking baby. Our only goal in life isn’t just to procreate is it????
