My husband and I are torn between both the Babyletto Kiwi and Babyletto Toco recliners. Has anyone sat in both (unfortunately with COVID, we cant go try them out!).
Im 5'3", husband is ~6'0". Both average size. Both chairs are about the right width and size for our nursery.
Cost, IMO, is not a huge factor, especially since this is baby #1 and we are planning for 2 kids. However, my husband seems to think that the extra $200 isnt worth it.
I just need some guidance! Is a recliner REALLY worth it for the price increase? Is one more comfortable than the other? This is so hard!
We have a Babyletto kiwi in my son’s room and still use it a ton but I’m wanting a second chair for new baby’s nursery. I’m having a hard time finding something that’s reasonably priced, smaller profile, and has the lip on the side of the back rest.
Any dupes currently out there? I had my eye on one months back but it’s no longer stocked. I don’t want to spend a lot as I will move the kiwi over when toddler is done with the need to rock. I don’t care if it has electric recline as we rarely use that function.
Even a good upholstered rocking chair that had a similar aesthetic would fit the bill.

Favorite gliders?
I'm about to have my first and hear a glider is essential. We've looked at Pottery Barn Paxton & Babyletto Kiwi because they're Greenguard Certified. Nurture& Glider Plus also seems safe.
Also considering a LazyBoy recliner because they're sooo comfy, but I think they're made with polyurethane foam and not sure about VOCs/off-gassing and safety. If anyone has any insight, would love to hear!

I got the Kiwi glider and am obsessed with how comfortable it is!!!! I don’t have a fair comparison with the Toco Glider, tho.
We have the Kiwi and really like it. I’m also 5’3” and my husband is 6’1”. I need an extra cushion for my back because I’m shorter but it’s perfect as-is for him. It’s a great looking piece and reclines so nicely! (Just space it away from your wall so you calculate for how far back it reclines). Happy shopping :)
does anyone have glider recommendations for their nursery, preferably for smaller spaces? i was looking at the babyletto toco glider and there were quite a few reviews about how loud/squeaky the chair became after a few months of use. a few of the other gliders i was looking at, other people reviewed them and said the same thing about how their glider began squeaking so loud that it would wake the baby and basically become unusable. i don’t want to spend $200+ money on a chair for it just be so squeaky and loud after a few months. so any recs/advice would be so appreciated!
FTM, eyeing the Babyletto Kiwi glider recliner as the nursery splurge item, but still tough justifying a full price purchase. Buy Buy Baby coupons exclude Babyletto brand. Are there stores with coupons or registry discount that don’t exclude it? Or does Babyletto have sales certain times of the year? Thanks in advance! Really looking forward to getting the nursery set up!

i ordered a Babyletto glider when my baby was very young, out of desperation after realizing i had no place to pump or breastfeed and i was so uncomfortable in bed. we didn't have time to shop but i had a fantastic coupon for one so we just ordered it.
now i'm reading that their fabric contains PFAS (at least for the Kiwi, i couldn't find anything specifically on the Toco, which is what i have, but the marketing DID say it was stain resistant so i would not be at all surprised).
so i want to get rid of the chair, but i am not sure what to do... if i give/sell it, i'm knowingly giving someone else toxic furniture. if i just dispose of it that's a huge waste. i feel awful that i bought it without more thought, but what's done is done. what would you do?
First of all, the glider is MUCH safer than what most people can afford as it looks like it is Greenguard, free of flame retardants, formaldehyde, etc. so whoever gets it from you most likely would have only been able to afford a more toxic glider (or I guess an Ikea chair). So I wouldn't worry about it from that perspective.
Also, as far as I understand, PFAS exposure is mostly a concern through water and food, as well as inhaled dust. For furniture the concern is dust from that furniture is inhaled. Ventilation and very regular dusting can decrease the risk. I think it's totally reasonable for you to want to completely avoid PFAS, and I do too, but I don't think PFAS from furniture that is already pretty good quality is anywhere near the highest source of exposure for most people who aren't obsessive about this stuff. If it concerns you, if they ask why you are selling it new/barely used you can be honest about the reason why.
You could give it away (or even sell it) with a note that it contains PFAS. Most people won't care. Even I, a person on this subreddit, wouldn't care!
I've been looking all over for a nursery glider, with one of the primary concerns being semi-compact because our nursery is a shared guest/office (for the time being). We tried sampling some chairs this weekend as we were in southern California for other business, but could only really try the Paxton Glider at a PB kids and overall selection was limited due to timing.
We also have a 30" wide door, meaning 29" furniture can fit through it (max). Most of the gliders I see recommended are around that 29" mark, but I'm still worried about getting it through the door. My husband and I are on the tall side (5'8" and 6'0") average build, and I have the torso of someone who's 6'+ lol!
Of the ones I've researched does anyone have experience on the comfort/quality of these:
-
Babyletto Toco
-
DaVinci Olive
-
DaVinci Adrian
-
Delta Children Slim
Some that are right on the mark of being 29" wide are: (experience getting these through a standard 30" door?)
-
Babyletto Cali
-
Babyletto Kiwi (recliner)
-
DaVinci Arlo (recliner)
I was looking at the PB/WE Paxton because it looked slim, but double checked my measurements and it was 29.5". If you've been able to get this through a narrow door let me know lol! Kind of bummed that this one didn't work out because with their sale and a 30% off fabric I could have gotten it for around $350.
I'm not really wanting a recliner because of the small space and I'm worried about falling asleep in it with baby, plus they tend to cost more and I'm trying to keep it under $1,000, ideally under $500 ish.
Bonus points for any of these if they're offered at a location with a trade discount. Places like PB, West Elm, Crate and Barrel, etc. I can get about 20% off (including sale discounts) due to my profession. I think Babyletto and DaVinci also offer trade discounts around 15% but that matches most of the registry completion discounts so I haven't applied there.
Our baby will have a very small bedroom. I’d like a glider or rocking chair, but so many of them are huge. Does anyone have suggestions for one that would fit in a small bedroom?
I need help finding a glider chair.
I can’t find one that is under $1,000 or has good reviews. And to find one that locks in general is even harder.
Buy buy baby is (essentially) now closed, furniture stores are too expensive, Amazon has almost no reviews on any gliders and most are bad.
What gliders would you recommend that are under about $800? You can suggest something that is more if thats all you have to suggest, im just looking for affordable really. But, I don’t want something that won’t even last a year.
Hello everyone. I’m new to Reddit and FTM currently at 24 weeks (yay!). I am trying to get a jumpstart on the nursery since I got my energy back in 2nd trimester. I am looking for a good gliding recliner. I love the Pottery Barn chairs but they are out of my price range. Trying to stay within $300-$500 range. Any suggestions would be very helpful to this overwhelmed momma to be. Thank you!!
I am in search of a rocking chair or glider that is durable and will get me the most bang for my buck. I got a glider with my first but it broke within 3 months and made this horrible noise and I am still bitter about it almost four years later. Are any of you in love with your chair of choice? Any pointers for when shopping for one? Any and all advice is welcome! Thank you!
I'm struggling to find a rocking chair that is both comfortable and affordable. I didn't realize how expensive they could get until I started looking around, it seems like the price points are very polarized, either it is extremely cheap and low quality, or they work well but cost more than the hospital bill or first year of diapers...with little to no in between. I see a lot of posts with people saying you need one that:
Swivels 360 and rocks
Has good cushioning
Is tall enough to rest your head back
Doesn't make a ton of noise
Can be cleaned easily
Has a reclining feature that doesnt require a donkey kick to make the feet go up and down
....and so on and I'm...overwhelmed. It looks like anything close to that description is four figures in price, which I'm surprised anyone can afford. I started by looking at some classic wooden gliders, but for most of them the reviews say they aren't comfortable or break really easily. Has that been most people's experience? Is it worth it to splurge on something better? And if so, what features (either on that list above or not) are actually important/worth the money? And where is it ok to compromise/sacrifice if it means bringing the price down by a few hundred bucks? Any specific chair recommendations that people love, or just general recommendations of places to look?
Lastly, how much do you actually use the rocker? It seems like opinions vary, some folks say it rarely gets used while others say the practically lived in them 24/7. Parents who have been through this process....what are your thoughts? I know that's a ton of questions so thanks for bearing with me, I'm just in a mini panic mode over here <3
Edit: So many responses, thank you all for the wonderful advice! I'm going to look around and see what some nicer secondhand options are (and what cleaning services are available in our area), but based on how far away our couch is from the nursery, the layout of the room, and the fact that we have a place to put the chair if we decide to move it out, I think we will at least still plan to get one before baby arrives since you never know what baby will be like and I'd rather avoid the post-birth scramble. Odds are we'll probably end up getting either a nice one secondhand (I'm in love with the Babyletto Kiwi but new is out of our price range) or one of the Costco/Walmart/Amazon mid-range chairs folks suggested that have worked well. It is also very reassuring to hear that you can get by without one, so worst case we can throw it all to the wind. Thank you all so, so much!
I'm convinced that B-list influencers made the Babyletto Kiwi Glider popular because it's definitely not worth dropping almost a grand on. There's so much hype online about this chair but it's sooooo not worth it!
First of all, it's not that comfortable. The seat is way too deep, unless your femurs are 3ft long. I'm 5'7" and I have to scoot back every time I sit down to make sure my back is up against the back of the chair. The armrests don't do anything for me at all as a breastfeeding mom. They're low and the cushioning leaves a lot to be desired. And the USB ports are useless. They're on the inside of the armrest, so unless you like having your leg jabbed by the plug, just do what the other 99% of the world does and plug your phone charger into an outlet.
Secondly, the quality is trash. After a couple of months, the chair would click anytime I rocked it. When you're trying to put a baby to sleep and you're annoyed that even your own breathing is too loud and might wake the baby, imagine how much your blood would boil when you sit back in this chair and it starts clicking... This chair has one job and it's to put my baby to sleep not to wake her up after I painstakingly got her down after selling my soul to the devil.
I ended up contacting Babyletto directly and they first asked me to tighten all the bolts. If you have this chair, humor yourself and see how many connections there are under this chair, over or under 300? After checking EVERYTHING I also noticed that one of the screws that connects the chair to the entire rocking/gliding mechanism wasn't even screwed in. The hole in the wood was completely stripped and there was some type of glue used around it. Mind you this is 1 of 4 screws that holds the chair together. So I get back to Babyletto with the update and they want a video of the clicking sound. Weird, but okay, I send them a video of me rocking and clicking away. They goy back to me and said they're going to send me another chair.
So the second chair arrives and... It's totally lopsided. Like comically leaning to the left. At this point I can't believe my luck and my back is killing me from rocking my baby to sleep. I reached back out to Babyletto and they offered me a 40% refund. So now I have 2 defective chairs that I basically spent $500 on - How does that help me? As a new mom to a 4 month old, the last thing I want to deal with is figuring out what to do with these two chairs PLUS look for another one. Oh and I'm also out $500.
Don't even deal with the headache, save your money, and look somewhere else!
Hey folks - I am seeking a nursery rocking chair that would work for plus size parents. Trying to find rocking chairs that would be pretty comfy to sit into and you don't feel like you're being squeezed/squished.
I’m looking at buying the kiwi and I’m worried about buying from pottery barn or west elm with all of the bad reviews I see.
