Not sure, if this feature is OS or OEM specific, but on my Samsung device, if I press the recent apps button, at the top left of the screen, I can see the apps running on the background and stop them individually. Also, apps that utilise the Accessibility Service API technically also run in the background, but they won't be shown in the list of apps that run in the background, they get triggered as soon as the device boots up or when the service is started by the user via the app. Additionally, you can also check on Settings > Battery and find out the aadditional apps that are also running from the background as well.
