Doing subway tile backsplash, curious about where to start and what to do with my inside corners
Done a few kitchen back splashes with subway tile. I’d start in the ‘middle’ so that on each edge you have the same amount of tile. Middle in quotes because that wouldn’t be the actual middle of the wall, but the middle of the tile pattern. So if you have a full tile on the left edge, shift your pattern to the left so it’s not a full tile anymore. And so that it matches the same width as the right side edge, giving more then the current inch. But then watch the next row since it’s currently half a tile, don’t want to get into the same situation where you have an inch. IMO of course. More on reddit.com

Difference between "cheap" and "expensive" backsplash subway tiles?
You're unlikely to notice it in wear on a backsplash. Those are super low mileage. Finishing exposed tile edges is something that's changed a lot. It used to be that you'd buy "bullnose" tiles with a finished edge on either the long side or short side or both. You can still do that, but you'll likely have to track them down. For the cheap solution (i.e. Home Depot $0.15 special) they make 2x6 bullnose tiles all with the finished edge on the long side. So you'd make a 2" border with those then use the 3x6 in the field. But more commonly now you'd use a tile trim piece a.k.a. Schleuter to provide a finished edge. This gives your tile something to terminate into. Personally I still think bullnose regular-sized tiles should be the default decision. But those bullnose tiles are expensive. That $0.15 field tile will be $3 or so with a bull nose.
