How do you turn your main bios into backup after switching to backup?

ALT+F9 or ALT+F11 should invoke the inverse - i.e. the backup BIOS is restored to main ... If you manage to get that to work, your first priority is to flash the main back to the BIOS that supports the 5800x3d. Then flash the main to the backup so this shit doesn't happen again. June 28, 2024 - Problem with a BIOS update is that if it fails, you need a recovery BIOS USB stick and a way to boot into it, as a Windows backup is then useless because that does not back up the BIOS, nor does it give you a way to restore it. My primary desktop is NOT an HP machine but one I built myself. It has a retail motherboard that supports something called EZFlash -- by which you can save the current BIOS to a USB stick and then, if a BIOS update goes badly, you can press a special key and force the PC to boot from the BIOS USB stick and then restore the BIOS from that.

You said that you had problems with your old BIOS, but then you flashed a new BIOS. It sounds like you have a corrupted BIOS, and that is why you are asking to boot back into the backup BIOS.

Anyway, here is how you boot back into the backup BIOS:

Method 1

Switch off your computer
Hold the power button until your computer starts and shuts down again
Press the power button again, your backup BIOS should kick in now and should re-flash the backup BIOS if there's anything wrong with the new one.

Method 2

Switch off your computer
Hold the power AND the reset button for about 10 sec, then release.
It should boot into the backup BIOS now.

Method 3

Only use this if nothing else works.

Short out pins 1 and 6 on the main BIOS chip by attaching a jumper to both the pins (pin #1 should be marked with a red dot or whatever)
Tell a friend to press the power on button while you do this, because right now you are holding the jumper on the pins
Remove the jumper you're holding between pins 1 and 6 as soon as you hear a beep.
Backup BIOS should boot now.

"Yo dawg, i heard you like backups?..."

So, i bricked my dual bios MOBO GA-AB350-Gaming 3. Managed to short out Main bios (m_bios) to boot on Backup bios (b_bios), now i have to update everything all over again. And my MOBO is particularly complicated with many incremental updates and tools to dl along the way. Especially since i had to use an older ryzen, because 5800x3D won't work now. So it means I think i need to boot W10 on USB, cause W11 won't work on older cpu...

Meaning i could very well screw up something again, and if understand how backup works, I'm on one leg now. If i brick again, it's game over. Unless when switching to backup, main somehow reset as well? I assume it keeps its corrupted state as it is.

If so, how do i backup my backup on my previous main chip so in case of unfortunate events, i can still use it as backup of my previous backup (i'd have to short out chips again i guess? to revert everything back). On the net i found this obscure manipulation, using ALT+F10 on bios, which is exactly what i want but it's said everywhere that it copies the main bios on the backup one. I'm in the case where i've already burned through the main and i'm running on the backup already, so i need the other way around. Plus, i can't even seem to make the menu appear anyway.

There is also the usual option to check when updating the bios which asks "update also your backup?" but it's same issue, does it work the other way around too? Will the bios understand i'm on the backup already and i want to copy update on the main, instead of the backup? If not, it will copy my corrupted main on backup and i'm finished.

Oh and also, how does a dual bios MOBO work exactly? Does my B_bios become my main forever now? going full "look at me, i'm the captain now" at my previous main ? Will the MOBO consistently boot on the backup for sure now, or could it switch back to main at some point, or should i do it? (after i'm sure i've copied a working version on it). i'm not shorting out anything again unless i have too though.

How do I create a Bios backup? I have a Gateway NV57H laptop running Windows 7. I am considering using "Universal Bios backup toolkit 2.0", but I'm not sure if it's legitimate or even how to use it. The reason I want to make a backup is that I may choose to update my Bios in the future, and I have heard that if the computer loses power / freezes during the update than my computer could be permanently bricked. If this worst case scenario occurs, how would I actually use a Bios backup to restore the previous Bios? P.S.: The Gateway support website has a download for the newest Bios for my model, but it uses Windows flash which I've heard adds even more risk. Also, I'm already aware of the severe risk, but would still like to know how to minimize or remove it with a backup plan should the bios become corrupted IF I ever choose to update.

Can't verify if this works but here's a method for the insyde BIOS that claims is able to recover from a bad flash : http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/7033-Insyde-bios-mod-requests/page149?p=146114#post146114 Just FYI, most insyde bios have a secret 'failsafe' to recover from a bad bios flash. -get the proper .FD file for your notebook, rename it to the first 4 digits and .BIN (ie: 30F3F2C.FD would become 30F3.BIN) -put newly named bin file on a fat16 or fat32 USB stick, plug it in the notebook -unplug notebook -remove battery -unit should be off, press and hold windows key and B -plug in AC power while holding those buttons -turn on notebook, let go of all buttons once LED lights come on -the notebook will beep every second, as it searches for the .bin file -if its filename matches your systems motherboard code, it will flash, and reboot -all is fixed
