I'm almost 40, and have been finding that my magic combo is high-waisted flowing trousers with tight shirts that overlap the pants waistline by about an inch or two — basically, short tops that don't bare the midriff. With some trousers, bodysuits look great and extremely polished to my eye; with others (especially if the waistline is styled casually — e.g., my silk cargo trousers with drawstring waist) I find I don't like the look of the top tucked in, so that 1" overlap is really key. On the cheaper side, I recently got a pair of Old Navy Taylor extra high rise wide leg. They are a trousery material (not sweats or chinos), but they are fully washable and have a little elastic at the back of the waist so I don’t feel pinched. I dress mine down with a graphic tee, Chuck Taylors, and statement earrings. More on reddit.com

I wear loose/loose silouettes all the time to my job! That said, I can pretty much wear whatever there but most of the time my fits could be described as business or smart casual. Imo the trick seems to be defining the waist a little. I do this by tucking in the front of the top with a belt, though I'm sure others here can provide more alternatives.
