Bamboo weighted blankets can be great for cooling. The tiny glass particles (with most companies, not sure about the one you got) are non-toxic, so I wouldn't be too worried. Unfortunately, the leaking beads issue is a reality with a lot of weighted blankets, especially ones that use smaller glass beads for better "flexibility" in the feel. Are the beads just coming out of the blanket, or are they making their way out of the cover too? Some companies have done things to prevent this issue, like adding an extra fabric layer inside as almost a "bladder" to hold the beads (although this comes at the cost of breathability a little bit), using larger beads, or using double stitching to better hold the beads. I'd say if your beads are making their way all the way out of the cover, you should push for a return. If it's an amazon purchase and you're outside of the return window, leave an honest (in this case negative) review and hope that the seller refunds you or gives you a replacement Answer from younghummyy on reddit.com

After doing some reading I decided to get a bamboo blanket and duvet. I love the silky feel of them. I went with a glass bead type because I read they are more cooling. After a few months I have been noticing bits of grainy sand in my bed. A little research on Amazon reviews showed a few people complaining that their blankets do the same thing. I'm just curious if anyone else has had a glass weighted blanket and experienced this. I'm worried that maybe I'm breathing the glass particles in which would not be at all healthy for my lungs. I messaged the company but didn't get a response. I should've returned it but it was too late by the time I noticed this happening. Other than that, I do like it.

I’m new and reading reviews on weighted blankets.

My body produces a lot of heat when I sleep, so I wanna shoot for what’s considered the most breathable or coolest weighted blanket.

It seems I wanna look for bamboo? Possibly a cotton mix.

Any advice would be great

April 21, 2021 -

Does anyone have any recommendations for weighted blankets for people that live in hotter climates year round? I'm currently looking at this one but I'm not sure if this is a good product or company. Heard some mixed reviews about Bearaby and Gravity but leaning towards a tree napper. Any help, experiences, or blanket recommendations are appreciated. I noticed a similar post a few days ago and there were some recommendations but I think I'd like to stay away from blankets with beads. I'm hoping the blanket will help with anxiety, insomnia, and other things.

Edit: Don't know if anyone will see this but thanks to those who helped me out and commented! I'm hoping to buy one soon so we'll see what happens :)

I’ve been using the Bare Home Weighted Blanket in a pretty warm climate year-round and it’s worked well for managing anxiety and insomnia. It is breathable. It’s not beadless, though, so it might not match what you’re looking for, but I’ve found it doesn’t trap as much heat as I expected. If beads are a dealbreaker, Bearaby’s Tree Napper might be closer to what you’re after since it’s knit and bead free.

I looked at Luna for a while, but ultimately decided on Bearaby purely to avoid glass beads. The first weighted blanket I had was a knockoff from Amazon that was made of bamboo fiber and filled with glass beads. It kept me plenty cool, but the beads shift over time, no matter how tight the squares are. Uneven weight distribution can really mess up your back, so I’d advise caution from going too heavy with a glass bead blanket. My roommate has the OG Gravity blanket, and at least at the time she ordered was made of minky fabric, so it’ll only roast you if that’s still the case. I am in love with my Bearaby blanket. I have the cotton napper, since the tree nappers were out of stock when I ordered. I sleep hot, so I had reservations about the cotton napper, but honestly it adds zero heat to sleeping. I can only imagine the tree napper would be better. They’re made of woven tencel fibers, so the weight is evenly distributed throughout the blanket. The weight literally can’t shift since everything is uniform. I’ve seen people say that Bearaby blankets stretch, but I’ve only found that when you pull on one side of the blanket, the weave stretches where you pull, and tightens on the other side. Really you just need to even out the weave if it bugs you, but I think it does fine equilibrating on its own. I use my Bearaby on top of other bed coverings so I haven’t washed it yet, but it still looks wonderful after several months. Hope this helps!

r/WeightedBlankets on Reddit: Luxome Cooling Weighted Blanket Review
January 28, 2021 -

I was quite skeptical of weighted blankets when I first learned about them through a friend. I never really had issues with sleeping so it never crossed my mind to try one. However, once I got into grad school, that all changed. Almost everyone on my floor had a weighted blanket and had recommended me to get one as well. Needless to say, I did my research and settled with the Cooling Weighted Blanket from Luxome.

I weigh 145lbs and decided upon the 15lb blanket, which for me, is the perfect weight. They always recommend to get one that is 10% of your body weight which I feel is a good estimate.

The blanket itself is very high quality. The zipper is pretty well hidden and can be found near the tag of the blanket.

I love that one side is minky and plush which feels fuzzy and warm while the other side is made of bamboo and feels relatively cool. I sleep hot most of the time so the bamboo side helps a lot. This is not to say that the blanket doesn't keep you warm when using the bamboo side, but it helps you to not get too hot. The weight is surprising distributed well, so there was not area that felt heavier than another which was nice.

Washing was easy and they tell you to wash it cold with the cover removed from the blanket. This is a must if you don't want to ruin your blanket.

The blanket helps me fall asleep faster, but not instantly as some of my friends suggest. Overall, I have been having better sleep so that's a win in my book.

Now come my complaints. The only complaint I really have is there is no instruction video on how to tie the blanket back into the cover. I unfortunately did not notice how it was tied when I was removing it to wash so I could not replicate it. I did end up managing to create my own knot to tie them in, but the process was tedious. Perhaps an instructional video from Luxome on how to reattach the cover to the blanket would be nice. Or maybe a future idea to make it easier to attach would be interesting to see. Other than that, I find this blanket to be amazing. If this blanket ever goes on sale, I highly recommend buying it for cheaper even though I don't find the price to be unreasonable.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

r/homeownerstips on Reddit: Looking for the Best Weighted Blanket
August 28, 2025 -

I've been dealing with some pretty rough sleep issues lately, and after doing some research, I keep coming across weighted blankets as a potential solution. I'm ready to invest in one, but looking at amazon and google searches, there are literally hundreds of options, all claiming to be the best weighted blanket on the market. The prices range from like $30 to over $300, and I honestly can't tell what makes one better than another.

I'm completely overwhelmed by all the options out there.

A bit of background: I'm a side sleeper who tends to run hot at night, and I've been struggling with anxiety that keeps me tossing and turning for hours. My therapist actually suggested trying a weighted blanket, saying it might help with the restlessness and that constant feeling of being "wired" when I'm trying to wind down. The thing is, when I started looking online,

I've read that the general rule is to get one that's about 10% of your body weight, but beyond that, I'm lost. Some are made with glass beads, others with plastic pellets. Some have removable covers, others don't. There are cooling versions, organic cotton ones, bamboo ones - my head is spinning! I've been browsing Amazon reviews for days, but you know how those can be. Half seem fake, and the other half are either "this changed my life!" or "total waste of money" with no in-between.

What I'm really looking for is something that won't make me overheat (this is huge for me), distributes weight evenly without bunching up, and is actually durable enough to last more than a few months. I'd also prefer something that's machine washable or at least has a washable cover, because let's be real, things happen.

I've been eyeing a few brands like Gravity, YnM, and Bearaby, but I'm open to any suggestions. Some specific questions I have:

  • Does the filling material really make a difference?

  • How important is the fabric type for temperature regulation?

  • Are the knitted/chunky ones worth considering, or are they just trendy?

  • What weight did you choose relative to your body weight, and how did that work out?

If you've had a bad experience with a weighted blanket, I'd love to hear about that too. What didn't work and why? Any brands or features to definitely avoid?

I have always felt soothed by the weight of blankets on me and never really put much thought into why. Just recently I learned that not only are weighted blankets a thing, but also the science behind why some people find them so calming/anxiety-reducing.

To those who've found relief from weighted blankets are there any you'd recommend? I've found myself a little overwhelmed by all the options out there and wouldn't mind a bit of direction. I am on a budget, so the only must is it has to be under $100, ideally under $50, though, this is the one item I'm willing to splurge a little on for the year.

Please and thank you!

r/WeightedBlankets on Reddit: Best cooling blanket under $150: Luxome Cooling vs Sleep Number True Temp vs Luna Bamboo vs ???
September 22, 2021 -

I'm looking for the best cooling option around $150. I'm mostly concerned with breathability and how the cover feels against the skin since I don't sleep with sheets. I'd prefer a traditional weighted blanket style over something like the Bearaby Napper, so these are the three options I've narrowed it down to.

Luxome Cooling

Sleep Number True Temp

Luna Bamboo

I'm leaning towards the Luxome since it seems to distribute the beads more evenly and has a variety of cover material options. I wish their full size was available in 20lb though, but they seem to make only one weight per size.

The Sleep Number might have the best fabric for cooling, but multiple reviews mention that it isn't very soft. It is also an odd size and doesn't have any other covers available for more warmth or softness.

The Luna is the most affordable option and is supposed to be pretty soft, but I've read that it might still be too warm for the summer. I definitely sleep better when I stay cool, so that is the primary consideration, followed by the softness of the fabric. Are there any better options I might have missed?

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Weighted blanket and bedding - any recommendations?
February 8, 2022 -

In the market for some new bedding. I've got a pretty standard down comforter and a linen bedding set, but am looking to upgrade. Max price range is about $500, priority goes to the weighted blanket.

  1. Weighted blanket. I need one that breathes well but can still keep me warm (I have fans running even in winter). Looking at a 25-pounder, but I'm in the midst of weight loss (currently at around 200 lbs, slowly dropping). Also would highly prefer one that gives me more than just a couple of extra inches on each side of a king mattress (so, >80x87 if that's a possibility). My current comforter is 80x87, but barely hangs over the sides of my mattress.

  2. Bedding sheets set. Would prefer percale or linen since they're cooler fabrics, but if there's a brand out there that's more resistant to sweat and the oils on your skin, that'd be amazing. My current sheets are nice and cool, but despite regular washing with hot water and even with stain remover additives, they're starting to stain from skin exposure. I do not sleep in pyjamas, and won't be starting any time soon.

r/WeightedBlankets on Reddit: Baloo vs. Luna - does the price difference reflect a true difference in quality?
August 31, 2025 -

My husband and I are buying a weighted blanket for our daughter as a birthday gift, and have reviewed quite a number of brands and options. We've decided on a 15 lbs. queen and have narrowed it to 2 brands - Baloo or Luna.

With a discount, the cost for Full/Queen Baloo is $135, plus $70 (!) for a cover (we may end up getting the cover elsewhere, however I do like that the fastenings to hold the blanket and cover together are made for each other, so I'm unsure). Baloo products have a lifetime guarantee.

By contrast, the cost for the Luna is about $55; there are no available covers but one from another seller would be between $20-$30. Luna products have a 2-year guarantee.

So the total cost would be about $73-85 for a Luna, and nearly $200 for a Baloo (less if we buy a cover elsewhere - say about $150).

The Baloo blankets look beautiful in the video, and they make much of being polyester-free with organic cotton, etc. The Luna is plainer (regular cotton instead of organic, larger plain squares instead of squares with channels, etc.) but according to the reviews and videos, appears to be well-made and functions well.

If it was for my husband and I we would buy the Luna, however it would be nice to give our daughter something special. My question is, would we truly be purchasing something of much better quality for the extra $100 in price - almost twice as much - or is it mostly more 'special cotton for special people' and upscale hype? Anyone with familiarity with these products, or thoughts on the situation, please write us back with your insights. Thanks!

I’ve been thinking about getting a weighted blanket to help with sleep and anxiety, but there are so many options out there that it’s hard to know what’s actually good.

I’m looking for something that’s:

  • Comfortable for year-round use (not too hot in summer)

  • Durable and easy to wash

  • The right weight for someone around 160 lbs (I’ve read 10% of body weight is ideal)

  • Good value without sacrificing quality

For those who’ve tried a few, what’s the best weighted blanket Reddit would suggest? Any tips on fabric type or filler material would be appreciated too.

Update: I ended up getting the Luna Cooling Weighted Blanket 15lb - https://www.lunablanket.com/products/kids-cooling-bamboo-weighted-blanket?variant=40153468272728 and so far I’m really happy with it. It’s comfortable, doesn’t overheat, and feels great quality. A big thanks to everyone for their suggestions—they really helped me make the final decision.

Has anyone found a good weighted blanket that isn’t extremely hot? I know by virtue of design that may be a difficult ask.

I never realized how much my body calms down with pressure, but it makes sense. Before my 30s crept up on me, I always slept on my stomach on TOP of my arms because it helped me fall asleep faster. I also prefer to sit with my legs crossed.

So to save my back and hopefully sleep better I’m hoping a weighted blanket will help, but I’m a hot sleeper!

r/WeightedBlankets on Reddit: Recommendations for a COLD weighted blanket?
October 19, 2019 -

So here's the thing, I really want a weighted blanket because I sleep much better with a good amount of weight on me.

The problem is, the weighted blankets are all typically quite hot.. Which is a major problem for me.

I'm currently using a really thin duvet from Walmart that weighs next to nothing. I live in Canada, in the winter with the windows open. I typically have a AC unit in my room running until mid-winter. I have to flip my pillow constantly throughout the night or change it because it gets too hot.

I can't express quite how annoying this is for me because the duvet makes it hard to sleep because it's so thin, but at the same time if I use anything thicker I'll have my AC on blast. And the pillow thing is a whole other problem.

Now that that's out of the weight, are there any weighted blankets / duvets that you recommend are on the colder side of things? Something you would have mid summer?

Tl: Dr, what weighted blanket would you recommend for mid-summer temperature?

I have tried over 10 different budget priced weighted blankets on Amazon and a lot of them were disappointing. At first I tried the 20 pound (recommended weight for me on their charts) thinking the heavier the better and it was not right for me. I am a side sleeper and all that weight ended up hurting my hips and I woke up sore all over my body. Then I tried the 15 pound and it was so much better, like night and day. Out of all of them I tried, the WarmHug brand on Amazon has been the most comfortable and durable budget priced ones I purchased. Since I never tried any blanket priced over $60, I do not have input on if the more expensive ones are better, or more comfortable. All the ones I purchased were in the $20-$60 range. The WarmHug brand I purchased has a feature that is better than most on the market. Most of the ones sold have large 5-6 inch square pockets. The WarmHug brand had smaller diamond patterned pockets and keep the beads from shifting and the weight more evenly distributed. Some of the other ones I tried made me wake up in pools of sweat and felt much hotter and uncomfortable. Also, the pockets holding the weighted beads on the other ones were too large which made the beads shift too much and the blanket feel like an uncomfortable sand bag. I also liked that the WarmHug brand has 8 loops for duvet covers. Since you really can't wash these blankets (can loosen the stitches), and the beads will spill or scatter into other pockets, you should get a duvet cover. Most duvet covers have 8 ties and a lot of these budget weighted blankets only come with 4 or 6 loops. If they don't have 8 loops and you are using a duvet cover, the blanket will bunch up and shift around inside the duvet making it a clumpy mess. This is my favorite one (WarmHug): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TYPCF4F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Out of all the Duvet covers I tried for my blankets, this 100% cotton one has been the most comfortable, durable and keeps my weighted blankets from getting too hot: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RKPQSJ2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I like my blankets nice and cool and bamboo fabric is the coolest, however, when I used bamboo duvet covers the material was so slick and smooth, it would make my blankets slide off the bed or couch onto the floor. That is why I recommend the 100% cotton duvet as it makes the blanket less likely to slide off of you and onto the floor. It has better grip. I also noticed that when I purchased larger sized blankets such as the 60"x80" sized ones, the weight didn't feel right and felt lighter than advertised. The smaller sized ones such as the 48"x72" ones, seem to feel better draped over me because more of the weighted beads are on me and not resting on the bed. It seems the smaller sized ones are more effective and the weight more concentrated. Be careful if you are looking for a specific material. Most of the budget blankets I purchased said the outer fabric/material was 100% cotton. Most of them were lying and when I got them, the labels/tags on them said Outer Shell 100% polyester. If you get hot in your sleep, or don't like to be too hot, 100% cotton or bamboo is the coolest and most breathable fabric for hot sleepers. You will roast under the blanket if the material is microfiber, minky or polyester. The WarmHug brand ended up being genuine cotton thankfully. Edited to answer a question you asked: Yes, it helps me with my anxiety. I have full blown panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and PTSD. I feel much better when I am under one of them. I noticed I sleep much longer, stopped tossing and turning and feel more relaxed. I look forward to going to bed or taking a nap now. However, these blankets are not for everyone. If you suffer from claustrophobia, have a fear of being trapped or held down, or don't like people hugging you, this will aggravate those symptoms. When I am under my weighted blanket it makes me feel like I am in a safe cave. It makes me not want to even get up from under it and I feel much less anxious.
