People also ask

Are money market rates fixed?
Most money market rates are variable, not fixed. That means the rate and APY you receive can rise or fall as market conditions change. A fixed introductory APY is the exception. During the promotional period, the fixed yield gives you a certain APY for a specific period of time. You might lose the fixed yield, however, if you don’t follow certain rules. An introductory rate may also require a deposit made with new money, which usually must come from outside the bank.

Why are Bank of America savings account interest rates so low?
well there are a few main reasons some people just dont know- they have their savings and dont know of other/better options differences in savings/banks. not everyone wants certain savings accounts or banks. certain accounts will have fees, some people dont want to move banks, etc a big thing is overall, its a very small difference. if you had 10K in the savings account, the 1.55% is roughly like 10$ a month. the other option is pennies a month. so to really get anything out of a higher yield savings you need to have A LOT more money sitting in the savings than most people have saved. for people living paycheck to paycheck or with just a couple hundred saved, they wont even earn 1$ of interest per month so the value of a 1.55% account is actually not that great More on reddit.com

Just moved my money over to BoA and looking to open an edge account. Looking for advice on preferred deposits vs money market mutual funds
is the MM account as safe as the preferred deposits? Yes. Technically not quite. Mostly because the FDIC has their own resources and the US treasury generally requires an act of Congress. Congress as we all know is half broken at the best of times these days. 2)if I were to do preferred deposits and borrowed some money to meet the initial 100k deposit how long until I could transfer some of that out? This borrowing to qualify is probably bad idea, but I would think T+2 settlement either way, so about a week? You need to get it there let it settle and then get it back out again. 3) what are the fees like associated with an edge account? None, if you are PH. if you are not, I'm not sure, but since you work there, certainly you can find the rates and fees page? ME has some of the best MMF's on the planet, so unless you really need FDIC insurance, TTTXX and friends are fabulous and I'd recommend you just stick to the MMF's. More on reddit.com

Money Market fund or HYSA?
Treasury-only money market funds are as safe as if not safer than HYSAs, pay more and are liquid too. I would go with a MMF. SNSXX on Schwab is a great choice to get a state tax exemption too, a good comparison of the cash options here More on reddit.com

r/personalfinance on Reddit: Why are Bank of America savings account interest rates so low?
May 4, 2020 -

Hi! I'm thinking of opening up a savings account, and am quite new to pretty much everything finances.

I did a quick Google search and it appears that the rate for a Bank of America savings account is 0.03%, which seems absurdly low compared to other rates I'm seeing like 1.55% at Marcus by Goldman Sachs.

What's the catch? Is there any reason at all why anyone would prefer to open a Bank of America savings account? Is it somehow more secure? Is a rate like 1.55% too good to be true? Thanks!

2 weeks ago - You earn interest at a higher rate than with an interest-bearing checking account — and even more than a traditional savings account. While the federal government has lifted withdrawal and transfer limits on money market accounts, some banks still place caps (sometimes six a month) on how many checks you can write or ATM withdrawals you can make.
