Some have tried to use the standard Encore for espresso, and a few even become passionately enraged at those who suggest it’s not optimized for that, but the fact remains that the Encore is inadequate for espresso for two reasons: Its burr set cannot produce a sufficiently fine, consistent grind; and The stepped adjustments are too wide to dial in a shot properly. Baratza has apparently remedied these shortcomings on the upcoming Encore ESP by installing the upgraded burr set currently found in the Virtuoso+, and by engineering an “espresso range“ with much closer, though still stepped adjustments for settings 1-20. February 26, 2023Kingrinder K6 v Baratza Encore ESP
I have no experience with the baratza but I’ve had my K6 for close to 2 years now. It’s very sturdy and well built and even comes with an adapter to use with a cordless drill/screwdriver, which is how I’ve been using it. To me, it shines as an espresso grinder. Plenty of range for dialing in and easily goes down to Turkish grind dust if that’s your thing. It makes fairly sweet well bodied shots that I mainly drink as americanos. Where it falls short for me is filter or pourover coffee. Not much clarity, or sweetness, plenty of body, not horrible cups but I never have loved them. My other grinder is a Cafesing orca hand grinder and if you’re not familiar with that it’s a flat burr hand grinder that comes with 2 sets of burrs, one ghost burr set and one traditional flat burr that resembles SSP HU burrs. I prefer either of those burrs for any brew method other than espresso compared to the K6. I do prefer the K6 to the orca for espresso. I even prefer the orca for aeropress but I don’t make a lot of those. More on reddit.com

Honestly I'm pretty sure this is user error. I never had any issues with mine. You could get a different one if it is within the return period. Otherwise they're being pretty decent in offering you a refurb unit. That's what you normally do under warranty. Before you unscrew the burr to clean it, use a vaccum cleaner. I usually put a paper town with a hole in it between the vaccum and the coffee machine to prevent it from touching. More on reddit.com

I've used the Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder for about 2 years and made plenty of good espresso with it. The plain vanilla Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder, not the ESP.
But I have some major and minor gripes with it and have a little more money to spend now, so I'm asking for upgrade recommendations that address these issues:
Gripes:
Biggest issues: changing beans in the hopper requires me to upend the entire machine. This is just ludicrous. The upgrade must have a better way to change out beans.
It's a mess. We never use the translucent grounds bin and always fill the portafilter directly. After a few days of use, grounds are everywhere. I would like the upgrade to minimize this "spray" effect. Changing beans is also a mess, for the reasons mentioned above.
"Dialing in" beans involves picking one of three settings on the dial: 10, or 11, or 12. Usually 11. There is no more granularity than that. Maybe that's normal? I assume that better machines have even more fine-grained control.
Pushing the run button requires me to wrap my hand around the entire machine as if I'm trying to pick it up. This usually ends up pushing the lightweight machine back. Using the timer mitigates this somewhat.
Usage: about 4-5 espressos per day.
Beans: good quality mail order espresso.
Budget: up to $600 or so. I could be convinced to spend more.

The Encore will not get fine enough for espresso. At that price point you likely need to be looking for a hand grinder ala the 1zpresso or similar.
