A decision was made to adjust the title and lyrics to “Mandy,” rather than “Brandy” — The Looking Glass had had a major hit in 1972 with “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl),” so the tweak was made to avoid listener confusion.

After the post regarding people's associations with the name "Brandy," I feel inspired to share this story and video about the original name for the Barry Manilow song "Mandy" (which I did in the comments when someone remarked about mixing up the name for the Manilow song with Brandy). I had the opportunity to meet Ron Dante, the lead vocals for The Archies, at the Grammy museum for an Abby Road Tribute concert with other great musicians like Debbie Peterson from The Bangles. When I introduced myself, he told me this story. The song was originally "Brandy," but when the Looking Glass song, "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" came out, they had to change it.
