Feature/accent tile for bathroom wall, good or bad idea?
Feature walls wont go out of style, it has been a thing forever, it’s just the style of tiles etc which has changed. I personally much prefer a feature wall or 2 (depending on layout). Adds interest to the room stopping it feeling like a box. If you’re worries about it going out of fashion etc then pick more neutral tones which will last longer, and instead add colour through plants, towels, ornaments etc. More on reddit.com

There are a number of videos on Youtube describing how to add LED accent lighting to showers, I'd start there. There are a number of LED strips that are water proof, and also a number of LED tracks available that are also able to be sealed against moisture.
One thing I do know about these LED strips is that no matter what you plan to do, if you don't make it so you can access the LED strip, you will likely have a bad time - the failure rate for these LED strips, even the quality ones, is quite high.
Having said that...
Ten years ago we redid our master bath, and we put in some accent tile in a contrasting color around the shower -- it was bold, but it looked amazing.
Now, ten years later, it looks dated and we hate it. I wish we had chosen a more timeless, "boring" tile pattern that didn't look like it needed to be remodeled again.
I look at the crazy accents that people are putting in their showers now, and I think, I wonder how many will regret that choice in 5 years...

Love your inspiration photos! The first looks so crisp, the second so moody; I really like both of those aesthetics. Your idea to use the hex tile on the shower walls and the slate for the floors will look really great. You mentioned something about niches; I wonder if you might use the hex tile in those as well. If not, I think maybe a charcoal/slate grey with matching grout would go well. I’m also wondering, if your budget allows, if you might consider taking the hexagon tile approximately half way up the walls in the entire bathroom. I think that would be really striking. As for the blush pink, I love the idea of the contrast/softness that would bring, but I would use it for paint and accessories—-things that are easier to change. A black/white/charcoal palette is so classic. When and if you tire of the blush it would be really easy to change up your accent color. Tiles require more time, money, and hassle to switch out; if you only use more temporary applications of a color it will be more practical for you in the long term. More on reddit.com

I am tossing up whether I should include a feature tile on one of our bathroom walls. I get it, people have personal preferences when it comes to aesthetics, but aesthetics aside (because I think both options can look great), I am weighing the pros and cons of a feature tile wall vs all the walls being the same colour tile. Here are some thoughts in my head:

A feature wall can help change things up, add some colour, contrast etc.

Choosing a colourful or more out there design might become dated over time, or I might not like the end result rather than sticking to a consistent more neutral colour.

Could feature walls go out of fashion the same way feature painted interior walls also went a bit out of fashion.

Feature tiles are often more expensive than regular bathroom tiles.

Do feature walls give off a more premium look to a bathroom for resale value…

For a modern high end look, go a feature tile that is the same shade as the rest of the tiles. It looks unbelievable 🥰 Black, white & naturals never go out of style. Colours have a shelf life of 18mths before it’s on to the next thing. Yes, I see everyone doing the Tadelakt plaster look, I’m reminded of the 90’s bold feature walls that had sand in them & we sponged on. It was horrible to get rid of. The problem with things like Tadelakt, is no one is doing them properly. The traditional Tadelakt had components like high content of lime to keep mold away. To make feature tiles pop, use them in a random place, like behind the mirror & vanity; or bath. Or if you are putting in floorboards, match the floor tile to a wood look blank, as the feature tile. It can give a high end look, but very rarely. The main problem is wrong features tiles that are so different in colour, texture than the rest of the bathroom, or used in the wrong area.
