IKEA ceiling and wall lighting quality

IMO the quality is fine, not great but good enough. Going up in quality will cost you a lot more than you think it will. For comparison I was really underwhelmed with the quality of the Kichler fixture I bought. Its replacement was equally poorly built. If you like the look of the IKEA stuff, go for it. OTOH if you're doing ceiling lighting you may want to think about the little LED pancake things that are all the rage these days. Bathroom vanity light

Honestly, IKEA makes the simplest and most elegant mount-on-wall mirror cabinets I've found. It would seem a shame to lose your existing cabinet simply for the light! You can always block out the gap behind a new, shallower light. It can be a piece of wood painted your wall color or, better, covered with a matching piece of stainless steel trim. You'll always see the line, but I promise you no one else will. That's the match-it-to-make-it disappear option. The other way to go is to make the "mismatch" more prominent so that it looks intentional. This might be as simple as adding a bit of material *below* the new fixture so that it stands off the top of the cabinet. Visually this would read as "cabinet with light on it" rather than "cabinet with a slightly too short light". Also, check back to IKEA; might they now have dimmable lights? More on reddit.com

Have any of you bought Ikea bathroom fixtures and furniture?

Second house with IKEA bathrooms (and kitchens) and never had a problem in the last six years or so. That's faucets, sinks, and vanities. They have excellent hardware. I like the godmorgen floating vanity so much I even built a wooden one to match for my master bath when IKEA didn't have exactly what I wanted. Fair warning that the sizing on the plumbing connections is weird so it may take an extra trip to the hardware store to connect the drain but you can google it first to find out what you need. And they expect you to keep your plumbing close to the wall so you may have to reconfigure it or diy cut/shorten/notch out a drawer or two. More on reddit.com
