r/macbookpro on Reddit: How to Check Battery Health on MacBook
September 7, 2023 -

Hey fellow Mac users!

One of the crucial aspects of maintaining your MacBook's performance is keeping an eye on its battery health. A healthy battery ensures that you can work on your MacBook for longer periods without worrying about sudden shutdowns. In this post, I'll walk you through the steps to check your MacBook's battery health.

How to Check Battery Health on MacBook

Step 1: Click on the Apple Menu

Start by clicking on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen. This will open the Apple Menu.

Step 2: Select "About This Mac"

In the Apple Menu, select "About This Mac." A new window will pop up with various information about your MacBook.

Step 3: Click on "System Report"

In the "About This Mac" window, click on the "System Report" button. This will open a detailed system information window.

Step 4: Navigate to "Power"

In the System Information window, navigate to the "Hardware" section on the left-hand side. Under "Hardware," you'll find a category called "Power." Click on it.

Step 5: Check Battery Information

In the "Power" section, you'll see a wealth of information about your MacBook's battery, including its health status, cycle count, and more. The "Health Information" section will provide you with a clear indication of your battery's condition.

Step 6: Analyze Battery Health

Look for the "Battery Health" section, which will give you a percentage indicating your battery's current health. A higher percentage means a healthier battery, while a lower percentage suggests wear and tear.

Step 7: Understand Cycle Count

Additionally, pay attention to the "Cycle Count" value. This tells you how many charge cycles your battery has gone through. As a general rule, most MacBook batteries are designed to retain around 80% of their original capacity after 1000 charge cycles.

By following these steps, you can quickly assess the health of your MacBook's battery and decide if it's time for a replacement or if you need to adjust your usage habits to prolong its lifespan.

Remember, a healthy battery means better performance and longer battery life for your MacBook!

r/MacOS on Reddit: Any way to see the Battery Health (Percentage) in Mac OS
September 21, 2023 -

Hey Team,

I have a 2019 MBP that I want to replace the battery on. I went into the Apple store, and they mentioned that the battery health has to be below 80% to be replaced (the results showed that it's 82%).

Are there any tools, scripts or ways to find out what my current percentage is WITHOUT having to go into the Apple store every time (and wait 20 minutes for their internal diagnostic tool to calculate).

And before you say it - checking in the settings and system info, the only statistic I get is "Battery Health = Normal". I want to see the actual percentage.

Any ideas?
