April 2, 2024 - I came across a picture of a long, narrow sofa table with a built-in outlet last year and immediately sent a screenshot to my husband. I knew it wouldn't be difficult to build, and as much as we love to DIY we knew we could make it much cheaper than buying it on Etsy. And I was right! With just a few hours and a couple of simple steps, we built this behind-the-couch console table for under $50 (including an outlet, which is totally optional).

If you’ve ever switched from traditional couches to a sectional, you probably know the struggle: no more space in the middle for a nightstand or end tables, and suddenly… nowhere to charge your phone, store remotes, or set down your coffee. That was exactly our dilemma. We used to have a 3-seater and a 2-seater with the charging nightstand in between. It had all of our chargers, a drawer for the remotes, and served as a spot to put down your drink. But once we upgraded to a sectional, all of that functionality disappeared. That’s why I built this custom behind-the-sofa table with charging ports, storage for remotes, a sleek walnut top, and even a custom side cabinet (because I will take all the storage we can get).

Got inspired to post this earlier while replying to another post. My 2nd ever project from a few years ago, a behind sofa table with outlets. It needs a good cleaning right now thanks to the dogs, but it works great and I think a good easy build for beginners

Good call. having connectivity near is nice. I have buried these in end tables for friends: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B096YKDYX5 that seems to be nice. there's plenty of use for outlets, but if all you are doing is plugging in phone chargers, well.. just get a hub that's very well suited to throwing power for fast charging.
