Bella Ramsey has opened up about their struggle with exploring their gender identity and sexuality in the public eye. In an interview with British Vogue on Wednesday 19 March, the 21-year-old actor reflected on coming out as non-binary in 2023. They said: “Part of the job of being an actor is that you’re supposed to have an answer to every question that people ask you… But actually the answer can be: ‘I don’t know and I’m not ready to talk about that,’ and that’s something that I’m still figuring out.” Bella, who has previously said they are ‘not one hundred per cent straight’, also described their autism diagnosis as a liberating experience which helped them better understand who they are They said: “I got diagnosed with autism when I was filming season one of The Last of Us. The label of being autistic has been so helpful to me because that’s helped me to understand myself, but gender and sexuality-wise, labels do not feel comfy for me in any capacity, because I feel like I’m putting myself into a box. I feel trapped.” They also spoke candidly about growing up in the spotlight at an age when most people are starting to explore their gender and sexuality, saying: “It does make me a bit sad that people who aren’t in the public eye can explore their gender identity or sexuality in private. That’s a privilege I don’t really get any more. If I did want to explore other things, like facets of my gender identity, that would be done publicly. As much as I would try and keep it private, if someone recognises me on the street, say if I’m presenting differently, [and] takes a photo, then that is just talked about.” Bella Ramsey will return as Ellie Williams for The Last of Us season 2 which premieres on April 13 2025. #bellaramsey #lastofus #nonbinarytiktok #genderidentity #sexuality #lgbtqia | TikTok

With all the Bella Ramsey hate can their proper pronouns at least be used?
She’s said she doesn’t care which pronouns people use, so what then gives you the right to decide? Edit: other than your own self perceived virtue, that is. More on reddit.com

Bella Ramsey: Pronouns(please be respectful)
it's a good question tbh and there's no harm in asking it imo i think (from what i've read) bella has mentioned that they do actually prefer they/them, but they're not bothered if people use other pronouns for them and it's not a cause of concern for them. i will always use whatever pronouns people tell me are their preferred pronouns, and i think it's really important to also ensure people know there is nothing incorrect about using singular they/them. a lot of people seem to hesitate to use singular they if someone uses those pronouns, because they think it's not how language works, but singular they is completely grammatically correct. i hope that makes sense and answers the question! Bella Ramsey - Wikipedia
2 days ago - While they stated that they/them pronouns are "the most truthful thing for me", they are indifferent to which pronouns are used for them, telling others to "call me how you see me". Ramsey considered withdrawing from Emmy consideration due to the lack of non-gendered categories but decided to contend for Lead Actress after discussions with The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin, feeling that language limitations should not prevent the celebration of non-binary performers. In May 2025, Ramsey described gendered categories as a "really complicated" issue, but: "[to preserve] recognition for women in the industry, ...
