I bought this a week ago! I sleep REALLY hot, so for $50 I thought, eh why not. Unfortunately, for me it’s just like most “cooling” things, where it’s cool to the touch at first, but eventually heats you up just like everything else. Maybe it will be a different story when it’s 70(currently 50s) degrees, but we’ll see! For now, I’m going to stick with my regular down comforter. Answer from cryptocorrection69 on reddit.com

I bought the coooling comforter and I like it better than my 140$ Ralph Lauren comforter. Not sure how I’ll feel about it for our cold winters but for the summer it feels like heaven. It feels like your laying on a cool fluffy cloud. Can’t recommend it enough

Seeing as I'm looking to be travelling around in my van during winter, I'm wondering if it's worth upping my duvet to something thicker? I've already tried having a blanket on my current one during colder spells and still find it chilly.
Just curious which TOG people would recommend? I know it's down to personal preference but thinking something in the 13-15 range would work?

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Down comforter for hot sleepers
July 26, 2023 -

Hello! I am looking for a new down comforter. My partner and I are somewhat hot sleepers who like to cuddle and keep our home at night at 65F or below year round either through AC or turning off the heat in winter (we obviously don’t keep it at 65 in the daytime). We use a duvet cover. We use percale sheets in warmer months and bamboo rayon sheets in winter (we find them warm).

Here are the options I'm considering:

  1. The Company Store Legends Hotel Alberta, $329/351, 600-650 fill down, baffle construction Light or Medium??

  2. The Company Store Legends Hotel Black Label, $344/366, 600-650 fill down, baffle construction, european down, Light or Medium?

  3. The Company Store Legends Luxury Royal Down, $501/591, 700-750 fill down, baffle construction, Hungarian white goose down, Light or Medium?

  4. Feathered Friends Bavarian 700 Down, $489/$519, Summer or Light?, 700+ fill Eastern European white goose down, sewn through construction

  5. Feathered Friends Baffled Box 700 Down, $569, Medium, 700+ fill Eastern European white goose down, baffle construction

Any advice very appreciated!

Edit: ok. I use and have used down my whole life. I do not want anything else. I like how it feels. We don’t currently have any issues. I’m trying to replace a very old hand me down comforter I’ve repaired multiple times that’s lost a lot of feathers and is falling apart due to holes. I’m not interested in suggestions for alternatives because I’m already familiar with them and they aren’t what I want. We don’t sweat at night. We don’t get too hot most of the time with our current set up.

November 24, 2017 -

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome & several other chronic and severe health issues and have a very hard time sleeping because I get very overheated. Oddly, I ALSO can't sleep without some sort of significant blanket. I keep my a/c cranked year round, but regardless, I require a blanket i can keep on, that will not overheat me.

I bought a down comforter at Bed Bath and Beyond in approximately 2009. I removed the tag early on. The only distinguishing factor is that I remember that it is a goose down comforter, and that the all-white fabric of the comforter has stripes in the fabric. It cost more than $250-$300 at the time, it may have even been over $400.

It has been ruined and no amount of effort has helped me find a suitable replacement. I have bought no less than six other (expensive!) comfortors- both down and down-alternative, many of which that are supposed to keep you cool. (This was not the case with the original. It was not marketed as "cooling" in any way.)

None of the replacements work - AT ALL - and they are very, very expensive.

The original down comforter is full of holes, falling apart and feathers fly everywhere. It's stained and gross- but regardless, my husband and I call it "the magic blanket" because the thing is ALWAYS COLD. Even in a hot bedroom, the blanket feels cool to the touch. I am desperate to find a replacement. I've spent well over $1200 trying to get a new one... And each one has been worse than the last, believe it or not.

If anyone has personal experience with a down comforter that feels cool to the touch, or who thinks they may be able to help me solve the mystery...I will be eternally grateful. I genuinely need to find a new one and I can not afford to keep buying blankets that leave me feeling sweaty and sick and unable to sleep. ;-(

My eternal gratitude for your help (in advance!)

r/Bedding on Reddit: Hot sleeper Looking for a Temperature-Regulating Comforter
May 12, 2023 -

I am looking for a comforter that I can hold on to for a long time. I’m not even 100% sure if a comforter is what I should be using and that may be the cause of my issues. What are the other options to comforters that I can use to sleep with? The only other thing I know of is blankets. I am in the military so I’m moving between places every couple months or so and in different places with different temperatures and climates. The AC in the barracks frequently goes out or straight up doesn’t work at times.

My budget is $300 Max.

What I am looking for:

  • Hot sleeper friendly

  • Able to be used in all seasons

  • Carries moisture away from the body.

  • Breatheable

  • Regulates temperature around the body

I am a hot sleeper. It’s common for me to wake up in the middle of the night hot and having to flip over the pillow or pull the sheet off to breathe. I generally like to sleep cool and me being a hot sleeper you see my problem. Right now I have a down fluffy comforter which is very soft and I like it. The biggest downsides of it are it traps my heat in which is good when the AC is working and on blasting cold air but when it’s off it’s absolutely miserable and impossible to sleep with it not being breathable. Open to all suggestions.

I don’t have any material preference but I do have slightly sensitive skin. Thanks for reading my Ted talk.

Your best bets will be either silk, cotton, wool or kapok. Kapok is a bit more pricey and hard to find, so depending on where you buy from it might be that pricerange or even a bit more than $300. Personally I'm a huge fan of silk comforters/inserts but they are challenging to wash, especially if you're in the military. The same could be said of most comforters/inserts, honestly: you're not supposed to wash them at all, really, if they have fill inside of it. Your down comforter definitely is not good for a hot sleeper and I try to steer hot sleepers away from them since they are insane heat-traps if you aren't a cold sleeper or live in a climate that's super-duper cold. Feather, though, is a better alternative that isn't as hot as down is, but obviously most don't like that trade-off since feathers aren't as soft/squishy and feathers poke a bit. A thicker, higher gsm cotton or wool blanket might be your best bet for your circumstances since it'll help keep you warm but not too warm (like ones from Coyuchi), though it might fall flat for you in the 'cooling' department, ngl. If you don't mind getting a summer weight silk insert/comforter (which is really thin/lightweight) it'll do pretty well at regulating your temps (but won't be as good in lower temps below 70F) but if you wash it you'll have to baby it a bit (handwash, air-dry, in other words). I got a silk comforter that's all-season from Costco that I really like for the price and it has its drawbacks (comes with a chemical smell, really crinkly cotton outershell) but it does phenomenally well at regulating my temps with my bedding system (sateen sheets, linen canvas duvet cover) and I became a true believer after getting it (silk is very loved here on this sub, for good reason). If you don't mind getting a duvet cover and buying an all-season insert to shove into it then that's always a good way to go for fluctuating temps since you won't wash the silk insert, you'll just have to wash the cover when it gets dirty (thus allowing you to use an all-season without worrying about the filling getting messed up via washing). Or, if you want, you can buy the comforter/insert by itself and just never wash it (as icky as it sounds some people do this and just spot clean it as needed). Most of the materials I listed (silk, wool, cotton, kapok) will do pretty well at regulating your temps in some form as long as you buy the right weight (summer weight usually), but the caveat to that is washing them isn't a good idea b/c it will mess up the filling and warp it unless it's a summer weight. A good option to test different types of fill material out is to buy one from Amazon and if you don't like it you can return it (Amazon's return policy is pretty awesome for this). Another user on here really loves Your Moon's silk comforter b/c it is pretty light silk fill which makes it much cooler to sleep with and THXSilk and Mommesilk are also highly recommended brands on here for silk inserts and they have washable ones (summer weight in other words). Amazon will also have other comforter types (wool, cotton, bamboo, feather, etc) so if you are interested in trying something out then that's a great way to experiment, so to speak. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

r/Bedding on Reddit: I'm looking for the best cooling comforter or blanket, but damn I've been running circles around Reddit and Google all morning...
February 2, 2025 -

I'm looking for something more cooling, as I get so warm at night. My room is the warmest in the house and I've tested it several degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the living room. I have the vent blowing but it doesn't work well.

Well I have a cotton comforter but it's a bit thick and I'm thinking to swap it out. Every brand I look into seems to have pros and then there is one or several comments with major cons. Here is what I've looked into so far.

Peru Pima: This one flew under the radar and I wasn't able to find much online but the people who had them did love them. I found a few comments saying they lost their softness after a wash and began to pill.

Rest Evercool: This one has tons of controversy, not being cooling, customer service, pilling, etc. At a glance it looks perfect but I'm not inclined to buy based on price and complaints.

Aeptom Eucalyptus Lyocell Comforter: An option I found after some digging but doesn't have much to back it up.

Sijo Clima TempTune Comforter: This comforter seems to fit the bill but there are complaints of returning and customer service being a nightmare.

And then there's a lot of opinions and reviews saying bamboo, but bamboo is really rayon and bad for you, cotton is the way to go, but then that rabbit hole goes deep too :P

Having to weed out who actually enjoys their comforter, and who is a paid ad, damn! What a world we live in. I feel bad for those who are less internet-savvy.

Can anyone recommend a cooling comforter or blanket that is high quality and not super thick? (if it's thick but cooling that's fine [I'm looking for something to keep me cool]).

TLDR: I can't find a good cooling comforter. Can anyone recommend or do you have any reviews based on the brands I mentioned?

We have a Company Store down comforter - going on 6 years, and it’s been great and still warm and fluffy, but started leaking a noticeable amount of tiny little down wisps every time we move. Sadly, I think it might be time to replace it. I’m considering the Feathered Friends option, but it’s so expensive. I’m looking for a BIFL that will get us at least 10yrs or more. Should we go with FF or what other options are there? Please note: only interested in down comforters, no other alternative materials! Thank you!
