Chosing a 1000W PSU in 2026 - Hesitation between a few models
Looking for a good 1000w PSU - PCPartPicker
Any 1000w psu suggestions?
The best white PSU for 2025-2026
Can a 1000W power supply be too much power?
A 1000W PSU isn't too much power if you have high-end components. Modern PSUs are efficient across various loads, with most maintaining 80%+ efficiency even at 20% load. The only downside is higher initial cost, but the headroom provides stability and supports future upgrades without needing a new PSU.
Does a 1000W PSU always draw 1000W power?
No, a 1000W PSU only draws as much power as your components need. During typical gaming, it might draw 400-600W, and for desktop use, often just 100-200W. The 1000W rating is the maximum it can safely deliver when needed, not constant consumption.
What GPU needs a 1000W power supply?
The RTX 5090 officially recommends 1000W minimum, while the RTX 4090 suggests 850-1000W for optimal performance. Professional GPUs like the RTX 6000 Ada also benefit from 1000W PSUs. Multi-GPU configurations and systems with extensive overclocking typically need 1000W+ to ensure stable operation.

Hi guys, gonna try to keep it short :
I am in the market for a new PSU because I decided 11 years old Corsair was to be retired soon. In anticipation for my next "big upgrade" going on AM5 and a 9070XT / 5070Ti.
Anyway, I'd like to get a 1000W psu, but I'm torn between a few choices :
AsRock Steel Legend SL-1000P looks so promising and is a fair bit cheaper than the other choices.
The PSU tier list rates it A+ but the guys at Hardware busters are scaring me about the OCP features with their "dealbreaker" judgement on it.
It's annoying cause it's such a good Price compared to the other choices I have.
Is this paranoia ? Or is it really something to be concerned about ? I mean, the OCP are there, just set "high". Is this just something to care about in "test lab" condition ?
Otherwise, I gotta go with a C1000 Gold 3.1 from NZXT, but the platform is a bit more dated since it's a 2023 design.
Or a RM1000X but then again, price is a bit higher than the Steel Legend.
Any input on the subject ?
EDIT :
I dont' really wanna discuss the wattage choice. I'd rather have "more" than needed, and run the PSU at a lower load.
Also I'm in for 10 years+ of usage, like the last two PSU I had so yeah, I'm oversizing it just in case my "next next" build asks for more.
Instead of buying a new PSU every build I do.

new build or upgrade?

here's my build. It's strickly for gaming. I've purchased everything but the cpu and psu. Any suggestions on a decent power suppy? ive been using that SPL list and finally switched to the phantom (A rated) but some bad reviews on newegg. But it seems every PSU I find for like sub $200 that is 1000w seem to have several bad reviews on them. started with montech century then the lian li edge but read several "stop working after x months" posts and that just scares me off after spending so much on parts.

Greetings all,
I have to say that finding a good white PSU is so insanely hard compared to a black one. Thats why i need help to pick one.
Corsair RM750x Shift 750W (White) -> 172 euros
Probably the absolute best out of there, but ffs 172 euros??? For a 750W? come on that is outrageous.
Corsair RM850e ATX3.1 850W (White) -> 143 euros
This is the Rme not Rmx. A lot of people have reported coil whine and its a B+ only in the SPL's tier list. A choice to avoid i think.
Gigabyte Aorus Elite P850W (White) -> 135 euros.
When you try to search this, people keep shitting on gigabyte for that one series of psu that caught on fire/exploded and i agree that gigabyte is a shit company and their psus suck EXCEPT for the Aorus Elite series.
Its literally an A- on SPL's tier list. There is 0 coil whine, the fan sound is quiet. I'm guessing all the protection it has in place are decent since they put it in A-. Honestly dumbfounded why people arent picking this.
Seasonic Focus GX ATX3.1 2024 750W (White) -> 140 euros.
People say Seasonic is the best of the best and stuff. Sure this might be for the old GX, but i have read a lot of stuff and found many bad reviews for this new GX of seasonic.
Coil whine, some dead on arrival, some broken after 2 months. Even after all of that its a A- on SPL list. Insane.
Lian Li Edge Gold 1000W (White) -> 140 euros
Holy 140 euros for 1000W? Honestly this looks good all around and its an A on SPL's list. Most reviews i have seen (not a lot though) say that its perfectly fine. The only bad thing i could find is from one youtube comment that it said it came dead on arrival.
The only thing i dont like its the L shape honestly, seems like a pain.
You have some other options like the MSI Mag (White) but all of them are not at A tier and i found a lot of negative stuff for them.
Out of the options above what should i choose? What White PSU do you have? for how long and has it shown any problems?
