my usage is about 80% gaming 20% video editing, but I plan on ramping up the video creation until it's maybe 60/40 or 50/50.

Just looking for a nice 1000w PSU for plenty of headroom. Was looking at corsair but they have like 3 revisions at the 1000w level. Technically I'm well under budget but I'm not trying to spend every penny I have, around 200 would be nice if I could get good value.

Been doing some research but haven't reached a conclusion yet.

The ones that have attracted me the most are the Hydro Ti Pro, Dark Power 13 and HX/HXi series from Corsair.

Is there any other PSU I should take into account? I'd say I prefer a dual 8 pin connector over the 12+4, but it isn't a dealbreaker for me. If anything, I want it to be either Plat or Titanium rating; not willing to go lower.

Thanks in advance!

This approach ensured a balanced and well-informed list of the top PSUs.

The Top 4 Power Supplies For the RTX 4090: Overview

Now, let's take a closer look at the top 4 power supplies that received the most votes from the Reddit community:

  1. EVGA Supernova 1600W Platinum: This PSU is the editor's choice and the best overall option. It offers exceptional performance, 100% Japanese capacitors, and a DC-DC Converter design for improved stability. The 1600W power output provides ample headroom for high-end requirements. However, it is worth noting that it is on the more expensive side.

  2. EVGA GQ 1000W Gold: This PSU is the best 1000W option and offers great value for the price. It is 80 PLUS Gold certified, features 100% Japanese capacitors, and provides reliable power delivery. With six VGA connectors, it is suitable for powering a high-end GPU.

  3. Seasonic Focus GX 850: This PSU is the best modular option and comes at a great price. It is 80 PLUS Gold certified, offers ripple suppression, and boasts extreme modularity. Despite some concerns about noise and bulky cables, it provides excellent performance and a 10-year warranty.

  4. EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G7: This PSU is the best option in the 850W category. It is fully modular, compact, and offers high efficiency with an 80 PLUS Gold certification. The EVGA brand's reputation adds to its reliability. However, it lacks the required 12.4-pin connector, which can be addressed with an adapter.

Each of these power supplies offers unique features and performance characteristics, catering to different needs and budgets. Whether you prioritize overall performance, affordability, modularity, or brand reputation, there is a PSU on this list for you.

Detailed Review of Each Power Supply

  1. EVGA Supernova 1600W Platinum: This PSU stands out as the best overall option. With its 100% Japanese capacitors and DC-DC Converter design, it provides stable power delivery. The 1600W power output ensures ample headroom for high-end requirements. It is highly reliable and supports future upgrades. The main downside is its higher price point.

  2. EVGA GQ 1000W Gold: This PSU offers great value for its price. It is 80 PLUS Gold certified, features 100% Japanese capacitors, and delivers stable power. The six VGA connectors make it suitable for powering high-end GPUs. The only drawback is that it is semi-modular, with at least one cable connected at all times.

  3. Seasonic Focus GX 850: This PSU stands out for its affordability and extreme modularity. It is 80 PLUS Gold certified and offers features like ripple suppression and a compact design. The downside is that it can be a bit noisy, and some users find the cables to be bulky.

  4. EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G7: This PSU is highly recommended despite its lower power output of 850W. It is fully modular, compact, and offers high efficiency with an 80 PLUS Gold certification. It provides reliable performance even in a compact space. The only drawbacks are the small distance between the peripheral connectors and the lack of PCIe 5.0 connectors.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Picking the right 1000W PSU
January 4, 2023 -

Greetings everyone,

so I have been running into issues with my build, which I have narrowed down to my PSU. Problem I'm facing is that the PSU is shutting down during gaming. Not sure if it is peak load, transient load, current issue, or something totally different.

My PC is a i5 13600K on a MSI Z690-A Pro DDR4 paired with a MSI RTX 3080 Ventus 3X. All powered by a Seasonic Focus Gold+ 850W from around 2018. None of the components are under/overclocked.

I have looked for replacements and would like something stronger, that also can deal with more demand should I upgrade in the future again, so that's why I've been looking at 1000W PSUs. My current picks are the "be quiet! STRAIGHT POWER11 CM 1000W" and the "DeepCool PQ1000M 1000W", but I wanted some input on what is preferable or if there are other suggestions. Edit: I have also picked up the "EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G6" and "Corsair RM1000X (2021)" as possible options.

I have set myself an ideal budget of about 200€ with the only wishes for the PSU being modular and efficent at lower consumptions. But given I haven't looked into anything PSU related for years, I would like some help.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Every part is already ordered (or about to be ordered) except the monitor and the psu (i already have a monitor and im planning on getting the one on the list in the near future) but the power supply is still something im unsure about. I have gotten recommendations for the rm1000e and others and i have no problem sticking with corsair, but from what i have read, the e series seems to be build with lower quality components than the x series for example. What high quality power supplies would you guys recommend for the build? (The x shift 1000w costs around 200€ and the rme1000 from a distributor that i trust (return policies, warranties etc) is around 170€)

thanks in advance!

EDIT: Ended up going with the RM1000x SHIFT, thanks for everybody helping!

I’m doing an upgrade next month, and I’m changing my power supply. I’m looking at the 1000W units to make some rooms for future upgrades.

I’m really in-between the good 850W units as well, for now these caught my eye and I can’t really decide which one to get, here they’re:

  1. Montech TITAN Gold 1000W

  2. FSP Hydro G Pro 1000W

  3. Seasonic GX-Focus 1000W

  4. SuperFlower Leadex VII XG 850W

  5. Corsair RM850x Shift

I doubt I’ll ever use an 90 series card, the most real GPU upgrade for me I can see a 4080 super for example, for now I use 3060 ti. But still I want to make sure my new PSU will support future upgrades so I would love to hear some recommendations! Thanks in advance

5950x, 32GB DDR4, I have a 3090 and got the 1000 Watt PSU for future proofing as well as plenty of headroom. It seems maybe I should have gotten a little more - what’s a high end recommended PSU these days for a 4090 on a high end build (may grab the new intel + DDR5)

here's my build. It's strickly for gaming. I've purchased everything but the cpu and psu. Any suggestions on a decent power suppy? ive been using that SPL list and finally switched to the phantom (A rated) but some bad reviews on newegg. But it seems every PSU I find for like sub $200 that is 1000w seem to have several bad reviews on them. started with montech century then the lian li edge but read several "stop working after x months" posts and that just scares me off after spending so much on parts.

I'm looking to build a new pc with a 4090 (and 7800x3d) and want to use a 1000w PSU. In this article (https://hwbusters.com/psus/how-to-select-a-new-psu-now-with-the-12vhpwr-upcoming-change/), the author says that it would be better to get a PSU that has 2x8 pin power connectors for the GPU. This does mean that you have to use a 2x8 pin-to- 12+4 pin connector to actually power the GPU, though.

So right now I am torn between the Corsair RM1000x shift and the MSI MPG a1000g PCIE5 power supply.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/psu/cp-9020253-na/rm1000x-shift-80-plus-gold-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020253-na

https://www.msi.com/Power-Supply/MPG-A1000G-PCIE5

Would it be better to get the MSI one, because then it would be a one-to-one 12VHPWR connector from PSU to GPU, or is it better to get the corsair one, for the reasons listed in the article above?

r/buildapc on Reddit: Looking for a Power Supply recommendation that is.. current? 2023 current
September 29, 2023 -

Well, I think after I just got done building my new pc that I was delivered a bad power supply.

Nothing would turn on except for the led's on the ram stick, no power anywhere, no fans moving, no lights, no fan or noise from the power supply itself.

So, I did all the troubleshooting for this issue, multimetered the PSU pins, and lastly, took out the power supply, disconnected every cable except for the main power line to the outlet (yes, I tried different power outlets), then flipped on the power supply. Nothing, not even a momentary fan spin.

So, I got to return it. It was a Vetroo 1000w Modular.

The PC I built has:

I9 13700k,

a 3060 video card,

1 stick of nvme m.2 2tb,

and 128 gigs of ram.

What would be a good power supply for all that? 850 watts? 1000 watts? Modular of course and around 150 - 170 bucks. Somewhat an established name brand is what I am looking for.

I mentioned current because my googling has videos and pages from 2022 and I am not that smart enough in PC building to know what to get.

Thanks in advance

My PC stopped working last night, and upon further inspection, it was my PSU that was dead. I bought the PC from the marketplace, so I don't have any chance of getting warranty support, and a brand-new model would cost me around $200-240. Are there any alternative PSUs that I can buy that deliver the same performance and are reputable?

Hi, I have an idea to build my first PC. I got second hand 7950XD and 4090 from my friend and decided to go for the 1000w PSU. After research for a while, I end up with this last 5 options. Could anyone please share your own experience or additional info to help me decide which one should I get ? I live in Thailand, I will convert THB to USD so it might differ from US a bit.

1.Seasonic Vertex GX 1000W = $205.45

2.THERMALTAKE Toughpower GF3 1000w = $185.99

3.MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 = $177.60

4.Deepcool PX1000G = $157.03

5.MONTECH TITAN Gold 1000w = $155.42

From the Cultist Tier list, I found that number 2-5 have the same OEM/ODM which is CWT. This make me confused as the design should be quite the same but how the price is different from each other.
