whats the most durable sink we can install in our standard 36" cabinet? it has about 32 inches on either side of the built in support of the cabinet. installing undermount into a taj mahal quartzite countertop. no apron. no kit lip edges.
we've been leaning towards Blanco white silgranit sinks, but i see a lot of mixed reviews of some saying durable - others saying they chip/stain. also considered fireclay but then see posts about disaster installs due to weight needing a lot of extra support underneath, this probably is the same for cast iron/porcelain.
whats everyones take? any brands recommended?
alright, spoke to the SO. they only want a white sink. not stainless. is blanco silgranit the best? or should we look a different route.

Doc, the most durable and the most functional is a 16 ga. stainless steel sink. My go to is Kraus.

Given that it’s undermount and not apron, does it absolutely have to be white? Because the most durable material is gonna be stainless, and Blanco makes great stainless sinks.

Has anyone ever gotten a 36" sink and thought it was too big? I realize that 3" isn't that much but if I have the space to upgrade... ... If you are going to have a dishwasher adjacent to the sink just be sure to plan for a cabinet one size up from the sink you choose. It can look a bit strange to have an apron sink next to a dishwasher without a little space between them.

Been redoing my kitchen and need to get a kitchen sink, I have a 36” sink cabinet so looking for biggest sink I can get. I like the workstation sinks that have those ledges for things like drying rack, cutting boards, colanders etc. For the longest time I’ve been eyeing the Kraus brand sinks, but does anyone have experience with them? Looking at reviews on Amazon some report them rusting after a few months. Maybe it’s just one offs or more to the story but being that they are $400 for sink basin only, I’d like to not have to replace the sink again in a year.
Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!

I don’t know brands per se, but I would tell you to pay very close attention to the style of sink that you get. Something that is popular now like I think they are called apron farm sinks, where the sink pokes out from the countertop in the front and overhangs part of the cabinet, may be popular now but might not be all that popular in a few years. Also there are single bowls and multi bowl thanks, sometimes the separators for those multiple bowls go up to the height of the sink bowl, or sometimes they only go up partway. My wife for example liked the idea of having one of those single bowl type of sinks but when she thought long and hard about it she realized that she uses two separate bowls in the sink one for washing and one for rinsing, so while she like the idea she needed them to be separate. We compromised when she saw that there was a company that made a mid rise two bowl sink for the kitchen and that’s what we went with. Something else to consider is the shape. I would suggest that you try to pick with a somewhat typical sink shape, and not something too unique if it’s going to be under mounted, meaning that it’s underneath the countertop, because that would mean a very special sort of cut out, and trying to match that in the future would be a real challenge. Just my 2 cents. Hope it can help in your decision!

With stainless sinks it's good to pay attention to the gauge (thickness) of metal used and if/how they're dampened for sound. Thin sinks with poor dampening will be loud, like beating a drum whe you put stuff in them. I upgraded from an old builder grade sink to a newer Elkay single bowl and the difference in sound was very noticeable. I'm sure there are better sinks than the Elkay, but it was a definite improvement for me and the price was good.
