Will the HDII fit my grinder?
Absolutely. The industry standard for grinders is as follows: Rotary Tools (i.e. Dremel TM) - 1/8" 3" Cut off tools and Die Grinder - 1/4" & 3/8” 4" Angle Grinder - 5/8" 4-1/2", 5”, 6", 7" Angle Grinder - 7/8" arbor flange for a 5/8\" coarse arbor shaft. At Bad Dog, we find that an HDII with a 7/8\" arbor flange runs truest because it is a more precise fit. The 4-1/2" and 6" Flange wheel use the 5/8\" coarse thread which is standard on ALL grinders. How safe is HDII compare to other wheels?
As safe as they get! Cut-off wheels can be some of the most dangerous tools in a shop. We are not telling you that you don’t need to be wearing safety when using our wheel, however, the 46 diamond grit is embedded on a hard steel plate to ensure that the wheel will not fly apart on you.
What won't the HDII cut?
Wood: It will shape wood well but burns when cutting. Glass: The HDII is too aggressive and leaves a jagged edge.
For grinding discs, I've always been a huge fan of the makita grinding discs with Bosch being a close second. And for cutting discs, I have a rather unique taste, I really like the harbor freight 5"x .040" discs and the 4.5"x 3/64" discs. They are remarkably thin and remarkably cheap coming in at .50 each. Yet they are very reliable in quality. I haven't had a single one explode On me that wasn't my own fault and they tend to last about as long as most other name brands. But the makita "fast cutting" 0.032" discs are also really great. However, at nearly, or over $2 each, even when buying in bulk, I like to save them for special occasions only.
So The reason I'm making this post is because Harbor freight recently discontinued all of their thin kerf discs, so no more .040" nor 3/64" nor 1/25". At present all of the discs are 1/16". So now I'm in the market for a new go to brand. Something With a good balance between quality, Cutting ability and price.
I've heard good things about the metabo slicer line of discs But I don't know if I want it invest $80 in a bulk pack without ever having tried them, but they are slightly Cheaper than the makita at ~$1.60 each. And when looking for another "cheap" Disk replacement, I found the Black Hawk brand on Amazon, they have decent reviews, but A lot Of products on Amazon are just relabled Chineseium, Which Blackhawk may very well be.
Ps. "Whatever I get for free at work" is an acceptable answer. Just let me know the brand and an honest opinion, if you would be so kind.
