Hey all
I live in a small apartment with 2 cats and I am trying to keep it clean, but my vacuum is terrible. This is my first apartment and when I moved in I bought the cheapest vacuum possible, I think it was like $25, and I have since regretted that as it just doesn’t get things clean. Like I’ll vacuum and it won’t pick up a lot of cat hair, and it also misses a ton a little things, to the point where my feet are constantly covered in little pieces of dirt/whatever.
I am looking for something, preferably under or around 100ish that will actually keep my carpets clean and preferably keep up with the cat hair.
Any suggestions?

I have a Shark Navigator. We own a Golden Retriever, and a teen daughter with hair to her waist. It's above your price range, but we LOVE it - got it on sale at Amazon for $160. Our carpet had been vacuumed weekly. The first time I used the Shark on the carpet, I was horrified by what was sucked out. It's 4 years old, and still going strong. Despite the piles of hair it deals with. I know people can feel strongly on bagged versus non-bag vacuums, but it doesn't really matter that much to me.

Here for the auper-frugal: clean your vacuum The biggest part of any vacuum is maintenance. If the beater bar is caked with hair, it won't work. Some times that's a consumable, but for almost every vacuum, you have to clean it after a couple uses. The other maintenance item is the air filter. That gets full, no suck. Also any long hoses can get bits stuck in there. The manual for your vacuum will be online if you need it. :-)

I have a shark cordless and HATE it. I need something that can hold up after vacuuming a large amount of dog hair throughout the week, my shark keeps breaking and can’t handle the hair. We have hardwood and a few rugs so would need to work well on both. I have a shark robot vacuum and that sucks too but that also sucks, looking to spend under $200. Bonus if it’s on sale or Black Friday!

That’s a tough budget tbh. You need something corded and bagged (contrary to what you might think, a bagged vacuum actually compresses the fur as opposed to bagless which actually fluffs up the fur, so you won’t be burning through a bag every vacuum session. It should last you at least 1-2 months. If you can stretch a little, a Kenmore 600 series pop and go. The pet powermate is worth the premium alone. It amazing with fur on upholstery.

In your situation with pet hair and mostly hard floors, a canister style machine would be the best fit. A powered floor head is likely needed since your rugs are probably packed with embedded pet hair since cordless vacuums, especially Shark, are very ineffective in cleaning them. For the actual hard flooring a more simple floor head without a brush roll will work best. The Kenmore 200 series gets really close to that $200 price point (currently $220 on Amazon) and may even come down in price with upcoming holiday sales. It includes the floor heads you need to get things clean. The Kenmore canisters are probably the best value around at the moment and will blow any cordless vacuum out of the water. Far better suction, agitation, capacity, versatility and filtration.
