Thankfully there’s not too many to choose from but still a fair amount that have been released so far, such as: Lg all in one washer dryer combo, ge profile all in one, Samsung bespoke washer/dryer, and the whirlpool combo.
Out of all of those the best I’ve heard about were the Samsung bespoke and the ge profile. But those two also have trade offs between them. The ge profile is said to have the fastest cycle time (2 hours and 30 minutes to wash and dry) but the downsides are: the lint trap is said to get clogged even with cleaning it after every cycle, and the appliance itself is very big.
The Samsung bespoke had the second fastest cycle time (3 hours), and it has the benefit of being a lot more sleek/normal sized compared to the bigger ge profile. The biggest downside I’ve heard about it is that Samsungs appliances aren’t very reliable. Meaning sure it might be fine for a year or two but after that there’s a chance it’ll have a lot of issues or need to be replaced completely.
Anyways my main reason for wanting an all in one combo washer dryer, is because the laundry room in my house is very very small. So by just having one unit it would free up a lot of space for something useful like a shelf for the detergent/towels, or a dirty clothes hamper. Lastly I’ll be paying for it myself but since I still live with family I wanted to see which one would work the best. Because if I end up getting one that breaks within a year, or takes 6 hours to do a single load, then they’ll be very annoyed at me 😂. So any help is appreciated, thank you!

I have had the LG one. They're ok, not exactly good at drying. Still need to hang the clothes to get the lingering moisture out. The $1400 GE one is basically the same thing with the same tech. The more expensive GE profile has newer heat pump tech and have great reviews overall. Just know this one is a lot bigger than the other two in terms of capacity and external dimensions. I'm eyeing one of these for an house addition.

I am building a new custom home, still in the early stages. We just got the rough plumbing in and will hopefully get the slab poured this week.
I am working on the laundry room design and I’ve been looking at all in one washer dryer combos. All I see are advantages:
-It’s not vented, so no need to cut a hole in the side of the house for the vent. -Since it’s just one machine, it takes up half the space -No need to transfer wet laundry from one machine to the next -More energy efficient -Less wear and tear on clothing
However, I don’t know anybody who uses these types of machines, so I feel like I’m missing something? What’s the downside? Would love to hear your experiences.
I’m located in the US. I understand that these types of washer/dryer combos are much more common in Europe. Why haven’t they taken off in the US market?

I would hesitate to get an all in one washer because they do neither as good as the dedicated units in my limited experience with them. I would get a stacked high efficiency washer and a heat pump dryer though. I’ll be going the heat pump route for my custom build because I don’t want a conventional dryer depressurizing my house and pumping out conditioned air. Matt Risinger did a good video on this.

We have the Samsung heat pump washer dryer single unit. Fn game changer. Yes it takes longer but it's actually so much quicker and mush less effort. Pop a load of clothes in, it comes out dry. No mold smell from forgetting, no alarms to switch it. They're also super quiet, pop a load in at night, before work, before going to the store, whatever, it's just done by the time you remember it. Detergent dispenses itself. Oh it takes an extra hour to dry, it really hasnt mattered. We don't have a laundry day anymore, we just casually throw stuff in throughout the week and it's just done. 15/10 highly recommend. We're putting and extra one into the master closet of our new build and letting the kids use the one in the laundry room. My onlyyyy complaint is if I overload it the jeans/pants are more wrinkled than a high heat dryer. Don't overload and it's fine. Do overload and you gotta live with it or iron.
