With the 58 and 57 only being available used now and people charging more than double what they cost new i don't really see them as reasonable options anymore. So what would be next in line? 5950X seems like a decent choice but that might be more for workstations?

Ryzen 9 5950X for productivity. Ryzen 7 5800X3D for gaming. Might need to up your cooler for either. I'm finding the 5700x to be the sweet spot for me in terms of price/performance/thermals. Depends on budget and usecase. 5950x has the most cores for compute tasks, 5800x3d is fastest for gaming but has long since been replaced by the slightly slower 5700x3d. More on reddit.com

I have the 5700x, while it is a good cpu. All of the x3d versions will perform so much better because at minimum you get 96mb lcache with x3d vs. 32mb with non x3d versions. Makes a huge difference for gaming and up to 30% more fps. If money is tight I advise 5700x as other have said. Its watts consumption is 65 tpu like ryzen 3600. So dont need a new psu. Then wait a year or two and build a new pc with AM5. These newer chips need better psu and compatible mobo which means you are overall spending a lot more. Edit: If money is not a concern. Just build a new pc or with lots of time swap out motherboard and cpu for any of the am5, mainly because the cost of x3d chips are roughly same as the newer generation chips and the newer chips performs better.
