I own a mattress business. My advice, completely ignore mattress sales. If you buy a mattress because it's on sale, you might forget to look for the most important things that matter, which are, is it comfortable and will last a long time and what happens if it's not comfortable in six months. Retailers use a "High Low" strategy to comply with the ACCC while ensuring there is always a sale on the floor: They leave a mattress at an inflated "Full Price" for a few months to legally establish a reference price. Then, they drop it to the "Sale Price" (which is the actual intended price). They rotate this cycle across different models so 50% of the showroom is always "on sale" while the other 50% is "resting" at full price. Ignore the "Was" price and the discount percentage completely, they are fabricated metrics. Judge the mattress solely on the final "Now" price and whether the comfort justifies that specific dollar amount. In my business, I don't have discounts, sales, or coupons.
