For what it's worth .. I went from Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro to AKG K712 Pro and thought I found my endgame headphones. I mostly play games and jam music(all types) About a month ago I saw some videos on YT about these Sennheiser HD490 Pro headphones for gaming. So I pulled the trigger. I snagged the HD490 Pro Plus set. (Carrying case and extra ear cups for mixing) Plugged them into my JDS Labs Atom stack (amp/dac) and played a few songs. The music was wonderful. So I jumped in a few games to check that out. Amazing sound on the battlefield of Warzone/Battlefield/Apex I could hear footsteps like I never have. The soundstage is perfect for me. Blew my K712 pros out of the water. These are the lightest and most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. Honestly they make you feel like nothing is in your head. The clamp force is light and feels great for hours. I ordered from Amazon just in case I did not like them. Plus the wife couldn't believe how much a set of new headphones was costing. (I showed her the HD800 price and she was ok with the HD490 Pro) Whatever you choose to get, I hope you can try these HD490 Pros at some point in life! Answer from smellinsweet on reddit.com

Wondering whats recommended for a good pair of headphones for listening to music and play FPS. I'm stuck between AR5000, HD490 pro and have mixed feelings about the DT1990 MK2. Thinking of pairing with a schiit gunnr for easy Mic control. Currently using razer black shark V2 pro wireless which are fine but id like to try open back with increased sound stage.i live in the UK and Budget with a dac is around £700. Priory is hearing crispy footsteps while playing fps and i enjoy a wide range of music with a lively bassy sound. Don't have ability to sample any which is a bummer

The Hifiman Arya Stealth is around £450 new on Amazon. It's extremely good for gaming. I promise you nothing else comes close at that price. It's also great for music, and it responds beautifully to EQ if you want to tailor it with more bass, tame any highs, etc. Edit - it's jumped up by £100 since yesterday. But it'll go back down, it always does on Amazon. Edition XS is also a very solid option, but if you get one, get a comfort strap from Custom Cans (they have a website). It makes the headband fit a lot better.

r/Audeze on Reddit: Audeze LCD-X 2021 Gaming
February 11, 2024 -

So I recently got carried away reading reviews and got my self the lcd x 2021. They have blown me away and I generally think I couldn’t ask for more.

I’m not a massive audiophile guy but I am starting to learn a fair bit. I was using the dt 1990 pro, this is mainly because I game and listen to music in my spare time.

I wanted to know how many people game with these cans and if it’s even worth it to do so. I run them through a schiit stack magni and modi+.

The weight doesn’t bother me was using them for 8 hours with no issues. My concern i am still in the return window and as I mainly game have I made a mistake getting these and should I have just gotten the maxwells instead (I know they probably won’t come close to this but for use case would make more sense)

EDIT: I ended up grabbing the hd800s as my goal was to find the best gaming headset, I will be grabbing an set of audezes again as for music the hd800s don't come close for my genre of music

I have the LCD-GX and love them for gaming. Wondering how much the difference is between the two particularly for gaming. Definitely would expect the X to be better for music

Hi! I think I’m in the perfect situation to give you a useful opinion about this: I also use headphones mainly for gaming and music, after owning several “gaming” headphones I really fell in love with sound with the Audeze Penrose which I used for 1 year or so but had too many wireless problems with different systems and so I looked for something else. Luckily for me I got myself into the “audiophile” headphones market and chose, after A LOT of research, the best headphone for me and settled on the incredible DT 1990 Pro. Man, these headphones were the best purchase I could possibly make, they have quite everything you want on headphones: incredible bass presence, wonderful mids, incredibly clean and detailed high end, astonishing detail retrieval (thanks to the emphasis on highs, which many can find fatiguing) and spacious soundstage (not the levels of a Arya which I own, but definitely not far from it). Add to these features its great imaging, great comfort, two sets of pads, a case and tank-like build and yes, they are maybe the best all rounded headphones you can buy right now. After I got these I really got curious about what other audiophile headphones could do, so I also bought the Arya Stealth, Focal Elegia and LCD-X 2021. Now, given the fact that all of these headphones are incredible choices on their own, I don’t think neither of those can give you a “drastically different” experience from just going with the DT 1990 Pro, and I tell you in good faith after spending way too much on headphones. I honestly think that headphones on the price range from 300€ to 600€ are what the audiophile hobby is really about: investing a good amount of money in order to experience high quality audio and different sound signatures without going broke. The performance leap from edition XS to Arya isn’t big to justify the price difference, just like between LCD-2C and LCD-X and many other cases. Also, don’t fall for the cringy etiquettes many influencers give nowadays to headphones based on their price like Mid-Fi, High-fi etc. cause they really don’t reflect the actual experience these products deliver, there are way less expensive headphones that sound better than very expensive headphones, the price alone doesn’t mean nothing. I think its worth spending more than 1000€ on a headphone only if you can afford it with ease of mind and if you already tried less expensive headphones and still are curious or unsatisfied, I don’t think going spending thousands of dollars without thought of just for hype is a good practice in general. So please consider this is a suggestion that takes in account the financial matter of the hobby: if you tried the LCD-X but are still wondering if you spent your money well or not, just return them, because they are not “worth” the price they have. And that’s just because there are many incredible headphones for less, not because they’re not outstanding (again, we have to take into account the financial aspect). I say buy the Maxwell if you want the great ease of use only a wireless headset can deliver, but if you plan to use the Maxwell wired, stick with the 1990 Pro unless you want the passive noise isolation a closed back can give you. I hope this was useful! Edit: Also in terms of gaming use, I think the 1990 Pro are better than LCD-X.
