If there was a place they were "supposed to" be set, there wouldn't be any need for a knob. The adjustment is there because things like the size and shape of your room, where the speakers are placed and where you're sitting, and even the volume you listen at, all have effects on the treble / bass balance. So, set them wherever they sound good to you. Answer from squirrelpotpie on reddit.com

If you're looking for the music to be pure, as in sounding the way that the artist intended, leave it flat, or at 0. A pure sound starts at the store when you're trying out headphones. Generally over ear headphones, preferably high quality noise canceling headphones will be the most "pure" although some will naturally have more bass like Beats headphones. The other thing to look at if you want pure sound is to stay away from mp3. .flac or other lossless file format is what you want to use.

I just got my first set of good speakers (Edifier R2000DB, I know it’s not as good as some of you guys’ but there literally the best things I have ever heard) and it lets me set the treble and bass, I mostly listen to 90s/early 2000s rap but I also listen to a bit of “white boy music” (everlast and kid rock). I don’t know what to set treble and bass to, can anyone help? Thanks heaps in advance.

Wherever it sounds good to you. Start by setting them to the middle position (halfway in between the maximum setting and the minimum setting). There's essentially two things you can do: Increase or decrease Bass and Treble by the same amount. Increasing them by the same amount will essentially lower the midrange (the range of frequencies between bass and treble). Decreasing them by the same amount will essentially increase the midrange. Increase bass while you decrease treble. This will "tilt" the sound towards low frequencies. Or vice versa: decrease bass while you increase treble. This will tilt the sound towards high frequencies. The correct setting is whatever sounds correct to you.

What should bass and treble be set at?
The ideal bass and treble settings will vary depending on factors like the genre of music, your personal preferences, and the capabilities of your audio setup. As a general rule, aim for a balanced sound with a slight emphasis on the frequencies that are most important for your listening preferences. For example, if you enjoy bass-heavy genres like hip-hop or EDM, you may want to start with a slight boost in the bass frequencies around 60-100 Hz. If you prefer a brighter, more detailed sound, you may want to slightly emphasize the treble frequencies around 8-10 kHz. The key is to make small, i

Does treble make bass louder?
Treble and bass are separate frequency ranges, so boosting the treble won't directly make the bass louder. However, the relative balance between bass and treble can affect how we perceive the overall sound. For example, if the treble is too prominent relative to the bass, it can make the bass seem quieter or less impactful by comparison. Conversely, if the bass is too overpowering, it can make the treble seem dull or muffled. The key is to find a balance between bass and treble that allows both frequency ranges to shine without overpowering each other.

Should treble always be higher than bass?
As with the previous question, there's no one-size-fits-all answer to whether treble should always be higher than bass. It all depends on the specific music, your personal preferences, and the capabilities of your audio setup. In some cases, slightly emphasizing the treble frequencies can add clarity, detail, and airiness to the sound. However, too much treble boost can lead to a harsh, fatiguing sound that's uncomfortable to listen to over long periods of time. As a general rule, aim for a balanced sound with a slight emphasis on the frequencies that are most important for the genre and style

January 24, 2022 - For me, the ideal speaker in room response is roughly a smooth response elevated by a coupe of dB at the extreme bass end, and more or less making a straight line (on a log frequency scale) to a couple of dB drop at the extreme treble end with the mid point (no boost or cut) being in the 500Hz to 1KHz region. Of course without some means of measuring and visualizing this (such as the free Room EQ Wizard application and a proper calibrated measuring mic), then such a description probably makes no sense whatsoever Re headphones, well they are very different for various reasons.

May 4, 2004 - I agree with gidrah. Although flat can be fine for most, I think that even after calibration, it also depends on the source material. For example, I personally like the opening credits/sound of Top Gun with bass at +2 and treble at +6. Other source material is best running flat (for me).

Im using these custom eq, should sound like immersive with more treble. Also helps a lot with my soundstage accuracy. However, it’s important to be mindful of excessive bass levels, as they can create unwanted vibrations and cause resonances within the room, resulting in reduced echo cancellation. The Nureva App and Nureva Console offer options for setting the treble and bass outputs for HDL310 and HDL410 speakers.
