r/vinyl on Reddit: Do you add bass or treble when listening?
December 26, 2014 -
Hey Everybody,
Just a quick question. On my receiver I've had the bass and treble the whole way up. I just turned it back down and I think I like it better. Does bass and treble ruin the sound?

January 24, 2022 - So sometimes adjustments help, one thing to beware of is that turning up bass and treble may make it more exciting, but over time will be wearing. Many rooms have modes that give boomy base. You really need something like Dirac, but sometimes turning down the bass can help. ... i would say put it on what sounds best to you as we all hear different things and what sounds good to me might not sound good to you.

r/audio on Reddit: What should my treble and bass be set at?
May 4, 2022 -
I just got my first set of good speakers (Edifier R2000DB, I know it’s not as good as some of you guys’ but there literally the best things I have ever heard) and it lets me set the treble and bass, I mostly listen to 90s/early 2000s rap but I also listen to a bit of “white boy music” (everlast and kid rock). I don’t know what to set treble and bass to, can anyone help? Thanks heaps in advance.

If there was a place they were "supposed to" be set, there wouldn't be any need for a knob. The adjustment is there because things like the size and shape of your room, where the speakers are placed and where you're sitting, and even the volume you listen at, all have effects on the treble / bass balance. So, set them wherever they sound good to you.

Wherever it sounds good to you. Start by setting them to the middle position (halfway in between the maximum setting and the minimum setting). There's essentially two things you can do: Increase or decrease Bass and Treble by the same amount. Increasing them by the same amount will essentially lower the midrange (the range of frequencies between bass and treble). Decreasing them by the same amount will essentially increase the midrange. Increase bass while you decrease treble. This will "tilt" the sound towards low frequencies. Or vice versa: decrease bass while you increase treble. This will tilt the sound towards high frequencies. The correct setting is whatever sounds correct to you.

September 16, 2023 - Consider cutting the treble just a little to account for the more enthusiastic vocals, so they shine without being brash. ... As rock and metal are usually mixed with a boosted low-end already, it’s probably not necessary to go too crazy with the bass, but instead focus on the mids (if applicable) to emphasize the guitars.

These settings are for basic blues songs which is what I mostly play. My passive P- bass with quarterpounder pickup is tone all the way, volume as needed and on the amp, just a little mids boost to punch through.
