There are plenty of youtube tutorials on how to overclock, both GPU and CPU. Most AMD GPUs come with a performance utility that allows you to modify settings, but if you don't know what you are doing, you can end up with a pretty unstable system. How to overclock and/or other methods of improving performance is a much bigger topic than can be posted in here. Google is you friend here. Answer from 2raysdiver on reddit.com

r/Amd on Reddit: Looking for R5 3600 BIOS settings advice.
November 20, 2019 -

So, recently (a few months ago) I bought my new setup (everything except the G-Card)

B450 Tomahawk MAX

Ryzen 5 3600 (non X)

2x8gb 3200 CL16 Kingston predator RAM

256gb Adata boot NVMe SSD

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black

So This is my 1st time owning an unlocked CPU and i was curious about which BIOS settings to use. I'm not interested in pushing too much but i would like to experiment a little for fun.
I tried All core overclock and 4.2GHz is not hard. But I'm more curious about PBO and Auto-OC

So far everything i have tried has shown No difference at all.

PBO Auto/Enabled/Enhanced1-4 ... manual

Auto-OC +500 in Bios / +200 in Ryzen master...

LLC tried everything

Got "1usmus Ryzen Power Plan" and changed some settings that he recommended but everything is exactly the same.

By "same" I mean:

4000 all core boost. (down to 3975 sometimes)

4.2 on 3 cores. 4.175-4.150 on the others.

Temp is only passing 65C in Aida stress test.

I have never been able to get anything above 4.2 on any of the cores.

Now I'm not complaining. That is what is advertised so I'm perfectly happy. I'm just curious could I Do more?
The cooling isn't the best thing out there but it isn't the worst. Maybe my Silicon Lottery is such that that is all i can do...

What I would like is people with the same setup to share their experiences and/or settings (as detailed as possible ... Anything that they have changed from stock would be appreciated)

Hi cant speak for optimal BIOS for your board i have diferent vendor. What you see vcore voltage is single core voltage value is normal. vcore on r5 3600 fluctuates between 1 and 1.47v depends of cores usage . To have better idea download monitoring software like hwinfo.

I am a COMPLETE noob when it comes to messing around in the BIOS and making meaninful changes that increase performance.

I only know basic things like XMP and such but no clue how to squeeze performance out of my CPU.

I heard that you can get better FPS and whatnot by easily overclocking my CPU and RAM (?) i think.

Currently have:
B450 DS3H
Stock Cooler
Ryzen 5 3600
Patriot Viper Steel 32 GB 3600MHZ (cant check timings at the time of posting, can give them if asked in comments)
RX 6600XT
Windows 11

EDIT: Also changed these settings in BIOS like 2 minutes ago. https://imgur.com/m4rENRI

great answer for my question (nope) The 1050ti is not the best performance gpu. You will have to reduce the graphics settings to get the best experience in most games and run at 1080p at most. GTA 5 if I remember is a 2013 game. I don't play it myself but have seen the youtube graphics mods. AMD cpu's benefit from low latency on the RAM. Most people get samsung b-die and tighten their timings and overclock the ram to at least 3600 or 3800 if they can (so the IF is at 1800-1900). Samsung b-die allows for very tight timings at lower voltages than other kits and can take up to 1.5volts when overclocked. Be careful with RAM voltage as some IC's will die if you use too much. Hynix I believe has a maximum of 1.45volts but you need to research this yourself. This will increase the fps but with such a weak gpu its not going to give you much in the way of performance. A few fps at best. This does work well if you have a good gpu, like a 2080 for example. The other option is get a better gpu and save yourself the trouble of making lots of bios changes just to chase a few extra fps.

Did I correctly understand that the frequency listed on the internet shop for my RAM represents the frequency I will achieve with XMP or other overclocking methods, while the actual stable frequency is lower? It is the frequency and speed the manufacturer says is stable for Intel's memory controller, when it is put under a higher voltage (1.35 V usually). Think of Jedec as the same but at 1.2 V, for the sake of argument. I checked some auto overclock settings on my MSI B450 board and they still use extremely wide refresh cycles (tRC 75 and tRFC 560), which should be very easy to handle for AMD, so something is off there, man. Save your BIOS, put everything to default, reboot back into BIOS, set A-XMP and reboot. If this fails, do it again but set DRAM voltage at 1.4V.

Hi there, I have a Ryzen 5 5600 non X non G just the 5600 with a Gigabyte B550 motherboard, I was wondering what bios settings would be perfect for the best power consumption to performance ratio.

I don't wanna change voltage or anything I only wanna fiddle with the PBO Settings but since this is my first AMD PC I'm quite noob so please help me out.

Like I wanna know 3 things:

  1. What the settings for best performance

  2. What is the best balanced settings between performance and power consumption (like undervolting and stuffs)

  3. What is the settings for absolute lowest power consumption

All with precision boost overdrive

im giving a try with pbo with these setting in bios:

PPT 88
TDC 60
EDC 90
scalar to X3
core boost +200mhz
cpu voltage negative offset 0,05v
core performance boost and auto oc enabled

monitored voltage in game (SVI2TFN) and its around 1,35-1,4v in game with a temp around 55°c
some core boost up to 4250 mhz

i wonder if this voltage is safe ? temp pretty okay never above 60.

Hi everyone, I recently upgraded from a Ryzen 3 1200 to a Ryzen 5 3600. In order to keep the old B350 motherboard I have I updated it with the Beta Bios MSI provides for 3rd gen Ryzen Cpus. Although the pc is working fine and all benchmark results are on par with the ones on the web, the Cpu is running at unreasonably high temperatures. I'm running a Scythe Fuma 2 cooler which is one of the best air coolers on the market, but I'm reaching 80C in AIDA64 with the odd spike to 90C. PC specs: Motherboard: MSI B350 gaming plus Ram: Corsair Vengeance RGB Cooler: Scythe Fuma 2 Bios: 7A34vMHR(Beta version) Steps I've taken to troubleshoot: 1- I've repasted and reseated to cooler countless times, The thermal paste has had great spread on each attempt. 2- I've run the pc without case panels with not change in temperature. 3- The Cooler has been tested on my Ryzen 3 1200, only reaching 65C on loads while overclocked to 3.9Ghz 4- Just in case, I've sent the cooler to RMA, They've tested it on another Ryzen 3600 and reached only temps of up to 70C. 5- I've tried holding the cooler on simply by force to rule out the possibility that the backplate might be bent - temps stayed exactly the same. I've become very suspicious of the bios itself, believing that there are settings in MSIs sketchy half baked beta bios which are "Performance tuning" the chip causing it to overheat. Any guidance upon what bios settings to change would be greatly appreciated. Also please let me know if you believe anything other than the bios is at fault. Thanks! All things being equal, it's CPU/core voltage that makes it hot. If left on auto, most BIOS versions set it too high in order to compensate for different "silicone lottery" of chips. In average, voltage shouldn't go much over 1.3v at load. Most popular way to keep it down is to set -0.05 to -0.1v voltage offset in BIOS.

In June I built a new R5 3600 on an MSI B550 Pro MB and found the CPU ran too hot. It was pushing the thermal limit in a 10 minute stress test. After trying to remount/repaste a couple times, I tossed the Wraith Cooler and installed an Arctic Freezer 34 tower cooler. It was still reaching 80C under Prime95 and Cinebench multithreaded tests. I've played around with the automatic settings for a few days. In all honesty none of the PBO/AutoOC tuning settings seem to have any effect on thermals or performance. The only setting that does anything is a negative offset to core voltage. After setting an offset of -0.050V the CPU now idles a degree cooler, is -8C cooler at full load despite sustaining an automatic all core boost 50-75MHz faster (4025 vs 3970MHz because of improved thermals) that what it would do under either the default or PBO enabled settings.

Hi there, I have a (brand new) Ryzen 5 3600 on an equally new Asus Prime B450M-A II motherboard.

After replacing my parts from 2012 with my shiny new ones I booted straight into windows and noticed a few problems, for one my processor was reporting it's base clock as 3.95GHz (opposed to the 3.6GHz it should).

I booted into the BIOS and set it to the optimized defaults and it seemed to fix some issues, but the CPU wasn't going under the base clock like my old intel processor would (base speed of 3.4GHz but would clock down to 1.6GHz on idle) or turboing up to the advertised 4.2GHz (it would only reach just over 4GHz.

I haven't changed any BIOS settings other than fan control because I don't want to void my warranty in case my CPU is faulty, but I was wondering if it was possible to alter the boost clock on AMD without altering the base clock and if I'm missing some important settings or knowledge.

Basically I want to overclock, but for now I would settle for base speeds and a better understanding of my BIOS, but I can't find solutions to either of these through a lot of googling.

I got very used to my old motherboard's BIOS and Intel-based overclocking so my new BIOS is confusing me slightly so even any general explanations and advice on AMD would be greatly appreciated thank you!

(Also if I've made a mistake on my post or flair please let me know and I'll change it)
