Bollywood horror films are mostly not great. I remember watching Raaz as a kid and getting scared. What are some other movies that are actually good?

“Horror” is a genre that very few Bollywood movies have been able to nail. 🎥

With that being said, here’s my personal list of the Best Bollywood Horror Movies as of April 2025! 🎬

I'm a big fan of horror films, and while there are plenty of great horror movies in Hollywood, I’ve noticed that Bollywood doesn’t seem to have as many that genuinely scare people. Could you suggest some Bollywood horror films that are actually well-made and truly scary?

Bollywood may be known for its spice movies, but when this scary thing comes, it has given us some real back -cooling pearls! From terrible background scores to terrible ghosts, some movies live with you long after the credit role.

Movies such as Raat (1992), Mahal (1949) and Tambbad (2018) prove that Bollywood can only provide horror delivery without relying on jumps. And let's not forget the Ramsay Brothers classics who defined a whole era of the scare!

In Indian cinema, horror movies have not been much mainstream and is only now becoming more due to the rise of otts and other paid platforms. Most of the movies in this list are before the normalization period of horror in Indian cinema. To stand out more, these movies tried something unique whether it be the vfx, the premise of the movie as a whole, or even less or completely no songs at all which is not the standard for Bollywood movies. If you want to get into Indian cinema horror, I think these are some of the top movies to start from.

Watched all three recently. In my opinion, as horror movies,

Haunted > Raaz > 1920.

Haunted released after Raaz and 1920 so its special effects were better. It also was an original story unlike Raaz and 1920 which were "inspired" by Hollywood horror films. But Haunted is also a bit lengthy. Raaz and 1920 were smooth watches and perfectly edited. They're better movies than Haunted but the latter is a better horror movie, if you get what I mean.

P. S. Vikram Bhatt definitely has a problem with Christianity as he shows other religions as stronger in his movies.😂

It can be like Stree or 1920 or Darna Mana hai or of any horror related genre like horror comedy etc. Bonus: if you can tell older movies like, woh kon thi?

Horror in Bollywood always had a hint of unintended comedy and the genre was never taken seriously. But I loved Krishna Cottage when I was younger, the plot, the songs, the twists - it was good for its time.

Can someone suggest a real scary horror movie for a movie date night something like 1920, 13B
