EDIT - this should have been sitcoms, not comedy series.
Another post set me thinking - what would be my top 10 UK comedy series? So here goes....
Fawlty Towers - secretly, everyone's a bit Basil. Just don't mention the war.
Blackadder (series 2 onwards) - in particular the Third, but the final episode of Goes Forth is probably the best single episode of British comedy ever made, and I will die on that hill.
Father Ted - amazingly silly as well as brilliantly satirical.
The Royle Family - moving, emotional, realistic, and brilliantly written - Jim and Twiggy, "Mambo No.5" and wallpaper.
Dad's Army - lovingly sends up a group of men trying to do their best, but also deals with the class system in the UK at the time
Absolutely Fabulous - of its time, but stands up better than many others (unlike Patsy.)
Derry Girls - poking fun at what was a tense period in Northern Ireland
The Office - in my mind, much superior to its US version. And David Brent.
Only Fools and Horses.... - Script, timing and great acting - how else could you do both the bar fall and the chandelier?
Inside No. 9 - not exactly a sitcom, and a bit obscure, but bleakly funny. Especially if you want A Quiet Night In...
