Just discovered our sofa bed is uncomfy af. Can anyone recommend a nice, thick, comfy mattress topper that doesn't break the bank? Currently can feel every support bar thiight the current topper.
Hello! My partner and I are both terrible sleepers - we both wriggle a lot and we sleep hot, so we decided to get a king size cooling hybrid mattress.
We tried the cooling Simba hybrid mattress which was great for motion isolation, but it was way too hot. We currently have the Emma next gen cooling hybrid mattress, again great for motion isolation but also super hot.
We’re thinking that if we get a new mattress that’s not memory foam, that would be cooler but then we’d be able to feel each other moving, so we’re leaning towards keeping the Emma but putting a cooling topper on it.
Do you think that’s the best idea? And if so, what cooling topper would be the best? We’re looking to spend no more than £400 on the king size topper, and we’re in the UK. Thank you!
Full disclosure from the start, I cannot get a new mattress the way answers for most posts I searched for ended up concluding. Not only can I not afford one ("just a few hundred" that people reassure is the bulk of my only consistent income), but I am currently in a temporary living situation and the twin bed is not mine to change.
The mattress had been having me waking up very stiff and sore, affecting my daily function, especially because of scoliosis-based issues. I do PT but it's like the mattress erases progress. I got this topper for the good reviews and was returnable for three months as opposed to Amazon recommendations. I know 2" is laughable, but it's all I could afford. The topper definitely brought me relief when I got it. I wasn't waking up with as much pain.
I don't know enough about mattresses to be able to tell if it made things softer, or firmer, or why my mattress hurts my back and what about the topper helped it until it didn't.
But it's already lost its benefits after a little over two months. With the bed being a twin, you can't really sleep anywhere but the center, and I don't think the topper can handle that consistency of pressure there. I tried flipping it and rotating it, hoping to extend its life, even hoped it would expand while I was gone for a week. But I'm back, and I still wake up with the and stiffness and aches as before I bought the topper. I can't see its decompression when looking at it, but I can feel the difference between lying in the center to testing lying at the edges of the bed.
Has anyone had better luck with another one? Mine was on sale for $32.99 when I got it. Right now I think I can go higher after returning this, but I think I'd be most comfortable with a price in the $40s. 50s would be kind of a stretch, as online gigs I'd been doing have snuffed out or flaked on me and I'm in a lull of income again.
I'm hoping people in this sub will empathize and understand when I say I genuinely cannot afford to "just splurge on something like bedding." Thank you all
Living in a rented house
The mattress is not the greatest and as a side sleeper it hurts my hips, and upper legs
Also quite heavy at 110kg
So looking a decent quality, thick supportive mattress topper
Anyone got suggestions/recommendations?
My landlord bought a new mattress for my room right when I moved in, and it’s about as comfortable as a brick. I have a mattress topper from Amazon (Sleepy Owl) but it just isn’t good enough.
Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for solid mattress toppers that can serve as a mattress? Don’t mind investing in this as my sleep has been awful since moving in!
