is acer gaming laptop any good? ive read a lot of good reviews on asus, MSI and razor
it can compete with those brand laptops in terms of quality? null
Looking for new laptop.
First off, You picked a pretty decent line-up actually.
The comparison:
They all spout the same i7-8750H which will give you fairly good performance in the processing department.
Ram isn't going to be a big decider but i was pleasantly surprised that all 3 are spouting 2666Mhz speeds which isn't blazing fast but gamers and even streamers won't really notice any difference between ram speeds in the first place.
GPU is the same with a 1060 and neither are using the 3gb model which is what i was worried about so equal graphics processing.
Storage is really my only big gripe with the Acer though you could upgrade it yourself but the other two having a 1tb HDD of some sort for bulk storage with an SSD for the boot drive is the sweet spot and most people recommended spec.
Displays at 120hz and 144hz are going to look great either way. I've used both and its hard to notice any difference for me personally so i personally wouldn't make that a big selling factor. The Omen is a 17 inch display however and that can be a pretty significant difference in both gaming experience and size/weight.
I/O looks pretty consistent across all 3 but with all of the Omens USB-A ports being USB 3.1 and the Type C port being Thunderbolt. The Asus also seems to have a Thunderbolt port via Type C but with all of their USB-A being 3.0. The Acers Type C does not appear to be thunderbolt and 2 of its 4 USB-A ports are 2.0. All provide HDMI, but the Omen provides a Mini-displayport as-well which means it wouldn't be necessary to use a type C adapter if you had to display out with more than one monitor. The Omen and Acer both provide a gigabit ethernet connection, the Asus does not, remedied via an adapter but still.
Without testing them i am going to go off of previous experience and knowledge of similar systems: The Omen and Acer will probably have better cooling capacity with their bigger chassis allowing for more substantial heatsinks, heatpipes, and intake/exhaust fans. The Asus is more compact or thin which can limit its cooling capacity which can cause the system to throttle back under load to stop overheating which would degrade performance in games.
My final verdict:
Go with the Omen for maximum performance and cooling but at the drawback of it being a pretty thicc boi.
Go with the Asus if you want good performance and a sleek thin design but at the cost of its full potential under load.
Go with the Acer ONLY if you plan to add in a second HDD for large storage. After this upgrade it should be overall similar in performance, cooling and profile to the Omen.

As a longtime gamer that also happens to work at Best Buy, I would seriously reconsider getting a 17” display. Go into a store and try some out and really feel and look at the differences between the size options. Imo 17” is too big for a laptop and if you’re not planning on moving it so you’re not concerned with portability, then get a desktop instead.
