hi all ,
i recently moved into a new home that has very thick carpet. I have a miele c1 turbo thanks to you fine folks that works wonders on hardwood and even on light carpet, but doing a single bedroom with the thick carpet wears me out. i’ve adjusted the suction and the head and it’s still quite difficult.
The house needed a fridge and with the fridge came $160 in best buy bucks. I know none of these vacuums are going to be great, but i’m tight for money and need to find a way to clean my floors so this is the best option i got . Can you all suggest a decent enough vacuum for thick carpeting?

I would certainly go with the Hoover WindTunnel 2 or even the WindTunnel Max Capacity. The former, which is slightly more expensive, has a brush roll on/off in case you wanted to use it on hard floors. They are definitely the best deals on that site in your price range. Either would do the trick on your carpet. Make sure you read the manual to know how to keep up with filter maintenance and such.

I am in need of a new vacuum and need some recommendations. I was gifted a $500 giftcard to bestbuy but am willing to add another $100-200 on top of that. I had a Shark Navigator lift away . Have a mix of laminate and carpet with 4 kids and a dog. Not sure if cordless is an option. No issues with allergies either. Any input is greatly appreciated

Checking best buys vacuum offerings was sad 😭 How large is your home and is it one floor or multiple? Tbh I can't recommend much from that selection in good faith but I've narrowed it down a little: Without those questions answered I can basically only recommend the Dyson Ball animal 3 corded (it'll probably last up to 10 years with regular maintenance) or the LG cordzero or Samsung bespoke jet cordless models. Those would probably last 5+ years (not including the batteries) and I genuinely like that they empty into bags, but a cordless is overall a pain for whole home cleaning. The Bissell revolution 2x pet pro is the best consumer carpet washer you can buy and they sell that, so that's cool. Maybe you can buy a good robot from best buy, a roborock, but that is less useful of a purchase with a 2 story home. Btw buy the roborock q revo pro when it goes on sale, as it's cheaper than $800 usually. Best recommendation would be to use the best buy gift card on something else and buy a Kenmore 600 series canister from Amazon for $350 lmao. (I'd recommend a Miele really but that's way off the budget).

I’ve been doing analysis on reddit data and was looking at the most recommended vacuum cleaners in r/VacuumCleaners VS other subs. Thought I’d share the results here.
Its part of a side project of mine to play with Reddit data and LLMs. The goal was to create something useful for the community while learning and improving my development skills.
The analysis aims to highlight the most well reviewed vacuum cleaners. It can be taken as a very rough proxy for what’s widely considered the best vacuum cleaners. Hopefully it is a useful data point for anyone overwhelmed by the massive amount of fragmented information out there.
Methodology: For extraction and sentiment analysis, I used the Reddit’s API to scour discussions on vacuum cleaners across all subreddits (filtered for the past year for freshness). I sampled 586 relevant threads and used LLMs to analyze, extract, and categorize opinions from the comments. To identify the product, I used the info in the comment to lookup Amazon. Unfortunately for now the list only shows models available on Amazon (for simplicity’s sake).
For ranking, I calculated the normalized difference and ratio between the no. of positive and negative user sentiments, and used that to determine the final score for ranking.
Caveat: Handling and merging different descriptions, model numbers, abbreviations etc, and associating them with the right variation is non trivial, so its not 100% accurate. Let me know if you spot anything wrong or surprising.

I know this topic comes up often and it's always said that a cordless vacuum isn't BIFL. But damn if the Dyson V15 isn't life changing for me. I actually like vacuuming now. Lugging the cannister and cord around of my old vacuum room to room was such a chore. It's just so much easier and I like their little gimmick of showing how much dirt it's captured. Bought mine refurbished for a nice price and had it for around 1.5 years now. Granted I've never tried a Miele before, but I only have hardwood floors and a few spot rugs so I don't think I'd never the extra power or whatever else advantages it brings. Especially at the expense of lugging the cannister around with me.
