No washers and dryers are "BIFL". Even Speed Queen now uses less reliable electrical control boards. Here's my advice: the sweet spot for pricing dryers and washers is about $600-900 range. Do not buy the super cheap all white-style washers/dryers because you lose out over time due to their lower efficiency. While you may or may not have a well or have a low cost of water, you still need to heat that water, which costs money. You will also notice, as I did, in the store that they feel super cheap, like surprisingly so. Speed Queens and Miele's are very expensive, and while they are reliable they can and do break. I'd rather buy much cheaper washers and dryers and replace a few inexpensive parts as they wear. I think you'll save money in the long run. You want a brand that is easy to fix and parts which are easy to come by as well as a brand that appliance repair techs are very familiar with. Miele is touted as reliable, which they very well might be, but they are expensive, parts are hard to find, and techs that know how to repair them are rare. The brand that checked the criteria for us was GE, their reliability is decent, but the parts are cheap, easy to find, and every tech knows how to repair a GE. We went with these: LINK They solve the issues with front loaders that people seem to complain about, the mildew seals, etc. It has a vent on the front and the washer will spin slowly and quietly for a few hours after washing to draw air into the vent and dry the washer out (like leaving the door open). Also, it has a gasket on the door that is blue because it's bonded with microban as well as the drain hose and other parts that can stink. The beeps and sounds are pleasant and aren't too loud or too quiet, the switch gear feels high quality, the doors shut with a solid feeling, they are quite nice all around. While they are "smart" you do not need to use the feature for operation. We don't. Front loaders have several benefits over top loaders, even modern high efficiency ones: They use less water. They are faster. They wring your clothes out more, so less time in the dryer. They also wash a bit better than modern top loaders without the physical agitator that the boomers on here complain about. I have had both a modern top and a modern front loader, and I much prefer the front loader. Final tips: LG and Samsung have a 10% import tariff, so they are more expensive. If you must pick one of these Korean brands, pick LG, Samsung is not good. I had a top loader and dryer from Samsung, I had to take the top off the dryer and remove lint from the blower wheel every few months or the entire dryer buzzed loudly in operation, all due to a poorly designed lint catcher that warped slightly from heat over time and left a little gap that lint fell into and was sucked into the blower motor. Keep in mind the Miele and Bosch entries are "Euro sized" for some or all of their models (cannot remember) so they only handle small loads. Speed Queens have been noted by Consumer Reports and users to be rough on clothing. Good luck!

I’m currently on the market for a new front load washer/dryer set and according to the average reddit user, every single brand out there is garbage and has poor customer service. Is there still a brand/model in 2024 that’s decently reliable, has parts available, a decent costumer service that processes warranty claims in a timely manner and that doesn’t cost a fortune? I was looking at Electrolux or LG sets. They both seem pretty good but I read mixed reviews about both. Some people say that Electrolux is one of the best brands today while others say the complete opposite, same goes for LG and every other brand. Even at a higher price bracket (Speedqueen, Bosch, Miele) I’ve seen posts/comments complaining about the quality and costumer service. So… What’s to buy in 2024? Should I just get what has the features I want within my budget while avoiding obvious lemons? Should I spend the extra 1k$ to get a premium brand? Should I get an extra warranty? Should I give up and wash my clothes in the river with a washboard?

Discounts just increased for the LG WashCombo. It'll take some adjustment to get used to how the heat pump drying works instead of baking clothes, but I believe with discounts the price is now just under $2k which may actually make it cheaper than some sets. Definitely cheaper over time if you factor in the lifestyle enhancement of being able to put a load of clothes in before going to bed and waking up to them being dry. Washer maintenence review suggested the extended warranty because the heat pump is a new design, but the washer system is proven technology with LG's ten year warranty on the motor. Also suggested a pedestal because of the location of the filters that need changed. It additionally sprays jets into the clothes which is an enhancement to cleaning over them just rubbing against each other.

LG, speedqueen Everything else is kinda ass. The duet was a solid machine for years but whirlpool had done everything in its power to ruin their product. Whirlpool can get fucked for removing the drain access panel from many models. I no longer recommend them

So I’ve read the many Reddit posts about the best front-load washing machines, and the top recommendations always seem to be "Speed Queen" or "Miele." While I’m sure these are excellent brands, I’m looking for something in a more mid-range price point.

LG is ranked number one for mass market washer/ dryers--They really have their s*** together. I believe GE is number two followed by electrolux. It's not really close however. Laundry is the one thing LG does well. LG refrigerators are horrible however. There's not just one, but at least two class action lawsuits about compressor issues. There's a third class action suit against the water/freezer in the door not working. All the LG front load washers are basically the same. They all have the same guts and internals. The only difference is the bells and whistles and the control panel.

November 18, 2025 - Just gotta make sure you leave the door open after you do a load to let the machine dry out to keep from getting that mildew smell that typically happens to front loaders. Lastly, go to a scratch and dent to save yourself some money especially if they carry Speed Queens. Trust me, they are worth every penny.
