The C-Pen Exam Reader is a version of the C-Pen Reader that has the dictionary and other features disabled by default, leaving the read aloud function, so that students can use it in exams. While the Reader pen can have dictionary turned off this one is disabled for test taking situations.

In the UK, for example, that makes it allowed by the Joint Council for Qualifications, the people in charge of many exam qualifications such as the GCSE, GCE, Scottish Highers and more. Otherwise, you should make sure to contact your school or exam board to see if your child can use it on exams.

Interestingly, it also supports a number of languages other than English, Spanish and French, including Swedish, German, Danish, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese.

A C-pen, or any other reading pen, works by what's called OCR (optical character recognition) technology. Simply put, when you roll the device over some text, it takes a scan of the words and uses the OCR software to turn it into digital text that it can do things with.

While the company says that a child as young as 6 can use the C-Pen reader, because it requires a user to hold it at certain angles (70-90 degrees) consistently, and requires them to be able to roll it relatively smoothly across the words you want to scan, we would recommend it for ages 8 and up.
