Hello,
I am about to graduate college in the spring and I am looking to kickstart my passion of podcasting and content creation. I am willing to invest roughly 500-1000$ on one or more cameras.
In a perfect world, I would like to have one camera that would be good for podcasts and filming aesthetic environments like the heart of a major city and different aspects of nature.
Keep in mind... I am VERY new to all of this and don't really understand the terminology of shutter speed, lighting, and lenses. So any information would be very helpful.
Is it possible to do both of these with one camera?
Thanks.
Any recommendations for Affordable good quality podcasting camera? Something that I can live stream with at some point? I’m thinking something that works through my laptop too. Please and thank you! 🫶

Hi! I record my podcast with riverside and I use a LOGI Hd 1080p webcam. What's a better/ economical webcam to use instead? I want to upgrade. Thanks!
Would like to purchase cameras for a podcast 2 maybe 3 of them for different angles. Would like to spend less than 1000 per camera. In a YouTube video i saw someone reference the GH4 from panasonic. Im not opposed to second hand, just looking for advice thanks
I have uploaded two episodes and in works for the third one, I need guidance on what camera can I use as a beginner and in a budget and also the lens (I have been using my iPhone 14 and a borrowed Fujifilm Camera till now but the camera has record limit of 15 mins in 4k and 30 mins in 1080p). Most importantly, I want to know what cameras would have long recording limits and also can tackle overheating issues. Suggest budget friendly stuff.
Hey all, small podcast just hit 62 episodes recently and are looking to upgrade our current camera (iPhone 12 Pro Max) to a camera that can record for an unlimited amount of time.
Previously used my Canon D3400 I bought years ago, the footage look so much better on that camera in 1080p, than my iPhone does with 4K resolution. Only issue was that it only had a record limit of 29m59s and we would constantly get up to stop-start the camera, sometimes being so invested in the conversation that we miss our cue to stop start and we miss video on our podcast
Budget: $1500 AUD including accessories Resolution: 4K Recording Limit: Unlimited
Would also love to know what some good lighting would be good under $500AU (2-Man podcast, occasionally with guests)
I'm starting a podcast, and I'm designing a dedicated space where I'll record it, and other rooms I'll rent out to others as well. I plan on having a 3 camera set up, and I currently have a Canon 80d which I plan on selling, and a BMPCC4K. I'm not sure if it matters since I'll be stationary, but I likely won't have someone to manually adjust focus during recording. I'm willing to double down with the BMs but U wanna make sure it's w it, as they come needing a lot of pieces that aren't included. I will have thorough lighting, so that's not a concern. I had my eyes on the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8, and was thinking I would use it for the main camera, and use Canon kit lenses on the other two for closeups. If you have a camera recommendation for me, please feel free to let me know of any recommendations for lenses as well. I will need one for a wide angle and two for closeups. Should I:
A. Buy two more BMPCC4Ks or one BMPCC6K, B. Sell the BMPCC4K, buy 3 BMPCC6Ks, C. Sell the BMPCC4K, buy 3 of ______ camera? I'm hoping to spend under $5k on camera bodies.
Please feel free to critique all of this if you have relevant knowledge, as I have some previous camera knowledge but haven't been paying much attention to that space in recent years and am early in this process. Thank you all in advance 🙏
You’ve all helped me work through the best software options for adding video to my podcast and now I need to think about the hardware.
I’d need at least two cameras to get the guests and hosts but the money is tight. Background: the episodes run between 1 and 2 hours long and the “studio” space is quite small.
I was thinking about some used Go Pros but not sure. Looking forward to your advice.
We are extending to uploading our podcast on YouTube with videos but can’t seem to decide on the camera. Our podcast is usually 1h-1h30. What do you use if you do video and what do you suggest. Should we get a ring light as well. What tripods should we also consider getting?
Greetings one and all!
Long story short, a friend of a friend asked me to help them get a podcast started. Since they're not sure whether or not this podcast thing will workout, they don't really want invest a whole lot of money into the project. (Not going to go dirt cheap either though)
So I've recommended some lights, microphones, audio interfaces and software, but I'm stuck on recommending a budget camera. I'm a Sony user in general and was about to recommend the ZV line, however the more I looked into those, I the more it became clear that they have overheating issues. So having that in mind, they won't do a good job recording a podcast that could be hour(s) long.
Though I'm not sure if they still overheat if they're connected to a PC software like OBS and having OBS record the video locally instead, if anybody has insight on the matter, it would be appreciated!
Anyway, could anyone recommend a camera that doesn't have overheating issues when recording for longer periods of time?
Thanks in advance!
I've been recording video for my podcast for a while, and have a couple of cameras around the studio that I use at different times.
But I wanted to see each of them side-by-side to see which shot looked the best. Did a video of this to compare, and would love to hear thoughts on which look the best, and why?
In the video I used:
-
Logitec C920
-
Canon M50 Mark ii
-
Insta360 Link
-
iPhone 15 Pro
Can't seem to upload the image here, but you can see it in the video I shot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL8cED6O6dM
Welcome any insights and feedback.
Hello Guys, I’m planning to upgrade my canon m50. I would want some recommendations for camera/ accessories that will make recording for hours less of a hassle.
I am thinking for buying any one of these Sony Fx30 ( Bit expensive) Sony 6700 (doesn’t record 4K 24 for 3 hours) Black magic 4K ( not newly updated) Canon R7 ( cannot charge with AC adapter and record “I believe” )
My podcast can go up to 3 hours. I use the Atem mini iso. Well I would love to shoot my podcast in 4K but I don’t think I have the resources yet, still am thinking for future.
And I don’t know what lens will be good but in my head for Sony (aps C) Tamron 17-70 Sigma 35mm art lens Sony50 mm
Please recommend lens combos and what do you think will be the best ?
Sony 6700/fx30 users please let me know how long can you camera record with a usb C charger/ Ac adapter.
as the title says, i’m looking for a better camera than the one that comes with my macbook. the camera quality is very grainy, and just doesn’t look good. i’m looking for something of higher quality, but not at a crazy price either. what are some recommendations?
What phone do you have? And what computer?
If iPhone + Mac, use Continuity Camera to use your iPhone as a webcam.
If some other combo, get Reincubate Camo (an app) to connect your phone to your laptop as a webcam.
If you insist on a standalone webcam, the Elgato Facecam Pro seems to be a safe bet for most.
I personally use the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you have a Windows laptop. It's the best webcam IMO though.
Also don't forget about lighting. Minimum buy 1 key light.
I just starting podcasting and you can put your iphone as a camera input on your mac and just get a tripod to mount it
What is the best budget friendly camera for podcasting? Podcast lasts about 45min to an hour and it will be recording 3-5 people.
Me and my friend have been thinking about starting a video podcast, I'm looking for a camera (around 150$) that can record at 1080p (If possible). It doesn't need good sound quality because I plan on using microphones, so the camera would need to have a microphone jack (or something I can plug a microphone into). Any recommendations? Or pointers on starting podcasting?
I’m looking for camera recommendations..planning on a 3 camera setup for a studio environment. One for host, guest, and a full shot. Need something with a 3hr+ recording battery life and under $1000 per camera. Thank you!
My co-host is an Emmy nominated filmmaker and he recommended we use a modern iPhone or smartphone. Any good phone from the last 4 years will be better than any camera from 10+ years ago. Check us out to see if you like the quality. We both use phones and riverside. https://instagram.com/milklesspodcast?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==
I use a Sony zv e-10 we have it setup with a teleprompter and the TPrompt is used as a squadcast monitor, so the other hosts appear on it and host is looking at the camera. Also works well for monologues in regular teleprompter mode
Looking for Inexpensive 4k camera for podcast
Hosts are directly in front of the camera at their desks and not moving. Camera doesn’t need tracking. Right now hosts are using cameras on their computer and we need to upgrade to 4k. Don’t want to spend a lot, don’t need anything fancy but need something that will look good and plug directly into laptop. Also something that won’t overheat.
Ty!
So me and my host got these canon EOS 2000D cameras to record our visuals but our problem we have ran into after 3-4 episodes was that this camera can only record in high quality videos for 12mins at time. So we got a remote that auto records on a 12 min loop but it doesn’t fit our camera functions so we’re in the market for a new camera.
We’ve have been on Amazon looking at cameras but I wanted to get more real experienced reviews from the people of Reddit. We’re looking for a camera that can record long continuous videos 1-3 hours long in high quality. Preferably one where we can just press record and not have to worry about a time frame because it’ll automatically stop recording on us.
