I read once that civil engineers have to include in their calculations how much the carpet will weigh at installation but again at the end of the carpet's life - the added weight from dirt that was trapped in the carpet was many pounds! It is much easier to clean hardwood or vinyl or something smooth than to try to get between the carpet fibers to get all the dust, human dander and dead microscopic creatures that live on human skin out. Is carpet or hard floors a better choice for allergy sufferers? Why? - Quora
Answer (1 of 5): If you have never see what lies under a carpet when it’s being removed, then you’re in for a shock because the carpet traps more crud than anything else. The last carpet removal job I did was 960 square feet. It had been installed for nine years and the dirt that was under ...

Nylon or Polyester Carpet for Allergy Sufferer
The problem with carpet for allergy sufferers isnt with the carpet itself being allergenic . The problem is that carpet is a textile that holds onto dust, dander, hair, skin cells, and allergens, and is constantly reintroducing this stuff back into your home environment when you walk on it or vacuum it. Its almost impossible to maintain an allergen free environment with carpet in the house. Get yourself some hard surface flooring, and use a very low pile area rug for areas that you want carpet. Carpets or wooden floors for bedrooms (allergy and asthma sufferers)

Best Flooring for Allergy Sufferers?

I’m curious: what are the conflicts you’ve seen?

Everything I’ve read recommends hard floors for allergy sufferers. Over time, carpeting traps and breeds all sorts of allergens like dander, dust mites, pollen, mold, and insects.

Beyond that, VOCs from bad/illegal sources of lumber is a concern for wood floors, as are high VOC paints and bedding.

r/Flooring on Reddit: Nylon or Polyester Carpet for Allergy Sufferer
September 28, 2024 -

I am shopping for new carpeting for my bedrooms. Although I have been told to install hardwood or LVP since I have bad allergies, I still desire carpeting for my bedrooms.

The carpet store if pushing Anderson Tuftex manufactured by Shaw in polyester. They suggested either 100% Anso High Performance SD PET or 100% SD PET Polyester.

I had heard that nylon is the best fiber for wearability and had initially thought it would be my choice. Will I be making a mistake going with the polyester due to my allergies? I, however, don't want matted carpet in a year or two which someone mentioned as a possibility on a different reddit posting when using polyester. It is only my husband and I, no children or pets.

Thanks in advance for any comments!
