Less well known models from the normally reliable brands, and those brands sub brands, is where you should start. Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Matrix, Mazda 2 and 5, anything Scion, etc. Even collaborations with other brands can be good buys, like the Pontiac Vibe.
