Something a little bit older and basic. Honda civic, Toyota Corolla, Honda accord or Toyota Camry. If you get an Accord stick to a 4 cylinder model. The Mazda 3 is also generally reliable. Honda fit if you want something smaller that gets very good gas mileage. Any of these from the early 2010s would be reliable provided it hasn’t been beat to death. Cars to definitely avoid: 12+ ford focus/fiesta, any Nissan with a CVT, Hyundai/kia with the 2.4L. More on reddit.com

One thing I would keep in mind is the "backup camera requirement". That puts you into a semi newer vehicle which will also up the price you are looking at. NOW if you find something you like in that price range that has it AWESOME, but a small suggestion I would keep in the back of my mind is backup cameras are Easy to install yourself if you are even remotely mechanically inclined An audio shop can probably install one pretty cheap if #1 doesn't apply to you The only reason I bring this up is if you find a camry/corolla/civic w/e everyone is suggesting that has one but a little newer and they want (made up number) 15k but you can find a couple year old for 7k and it's $300 to get a backup camera installed that keeps you under your budget while still get the backup camera. Just a side thought for ya!!!

I was looking into this recently and the ford fusion with the 2.5l engine seems to fit the underated category. It was only available on the base trim and they stopped making it in 2019 so it can be hard to find, and doesn’t have many features. The hybrid fusions got good reviews too
