January 6, 2025Best car for under 10k? New to the market.
You don’t necessarily NEED AWD or 4WD, but I highly reccomend snow tires when the time comes, I’ve daily driven my fwd Malibu for 2 years in WI and the only issue I’ve had was getting pulled into the snowbank once(1.5+ foot snow drifts all the way into the center of the road, drove in the middle of the 2 lane and still got pull into the ditch) I’ll admit I had cheap all season tires😂 Of course still driving as if you don’t want to spill the open coffee on your lap, I havnt had too much of an issue in the snow other than your expecting slipping n sliding on turns in sleet and whatnot More on reddit.com

The best $10,000 car isn't a brand, make or model. The best $10,000 car is whatever you can find that was babied by an old person for a decade, had all its maintenance done at the dealership (because they told them to) and oil changes every six months (because the book said so).

Like the title said. I’ll be moving to the Midwest from Europe for my first job after grad school (so money is a bit tight right now) and I’ll need a car to commute both to my job and between the different offices the company has throughout the city. So because of that, I’ll need something under 10k, reliable, fuel efficient and fairly cheap to insure (24M). I’m a bit of a car enthusiast but I understand that a cooler car may not be on the table right now. I also don’t know if I would need an AWD car in order to not die when it snows (no snow where I’m from).
From what I’ve seen, in case I need an AWD car, I’d be looking at some sort of Subaru (Forester, Legacy) or maybe a Buick Regal. From the other similar posts in this sub, I could also consider one of the Toyota sedans or maybe a Honda civic or fit.
I’d really appreciate any recommendations you guys might have.
