I spend about 56k per year, most is supermarket, gas, eating out, dollar stores, fruits and veggies.
I am thinking about getting the Rogers Red Mastercard but wonder if there is a better option out there, if possible NO FEE too.
I also wonder what Rogers mean by "eligible purchases", I called them and was not informed if gas and supermarket can be considered or not
Thank you
For someone who spends a good chunk using a credit card, what is currently the best card to give some cash back? Preferably monthly, not yearly.
My family and I currently put nearly all of our purchases, bill payments, and charitable giving on our Costco credit card.
After reviewing our statements, I realized that over the past few years we’ve charged close to $50,000 annually, yet the cash-back return feels underwhelming.
Given that level of spending, I’m wondering which credit card might be the best fit for maximizing cash back or points. We rarely travel internationally, so I’ve leaned toward cash-back rewards instead of travel points, but I’m open to either if the value is compelling.
What card would you recommend for someone with this spending pattern?
Hi,
As someone who makes 45k a year and whose main expenses are groceries, bills (phone and gym), and public transportation. What's the best cashback credit card I can have ?
I do have the basic cashback card from National Bank, but it only offers 1% cashback, so it's really not much.
I'm also looking if possible for a no anual fee card or low anual fee card.
Thanks,
Hi, Just wanted to see what everyone utilizes for their cash back credit card? Thinking more for staples such as groceries, gas but also open to a general cashback structure?
Open to free or ones with annual fees.
I currently have an RBC cashback card which only gives me 1%. It's nothing! Time to do better.
Hi, I am wondering if anyone knows the best cashback credit card in Canada with no annual fees that give the best cashback on “everything else” and “EV charging”? Thank you in advance!
I am revamping my CashBack CC setup and have been looking for similar cards. This https://app.finlywealth.com/calculator has been a godsend, works best on desktop browser. You will need to filter for Cash Back, and punch in some spending numbers for it to accurately suggest.
From what I have seen $0/yr cards with best "other" % and without tie-ins you are probably looking at Rogers World Elite or SimplyCash (AmEx). Depending on where you like to shop you could also have a look at: Costco (CIBC) MC, Amazon.ca (MBNA) MC, Rogers MC, ...
CIBC Dividend Visa Infinte TD Cash Back Visa Infinte BMO Cash Back MC BNS Momentum Visa Infinte
Hey Everyone, As title suggests, I am planning to get a new credit card mostly for groceries and gas. I am already having standard dividend CIBC card that has 2% on groceries and 1% on gas. I am not getting much of cashback, so looking for better options, pls share your thoughts along with annual fee if applicable, TIA!
Hi I am currently using CIBC credit card. they give me 2% on the groceries and 1% on gas (all selective).
I just want to know which is the best to go for which would provide me more cash back (without being selective vendors)
I heard wealthsimple but I dont know if it is a safe option considering the credit card provided by the main Banks
I also heard RBC, could you please guide me guys
Thank you in advance
I just applied for the BMO World Elite Card which was super easy to apply for and got approved instantly and was told I should be receiving it around 8-10 business days. Is this a good card?
My main expenses are groceries. We only spend a lot on gas/diesel during the summer because we go on family road trips and camping but winter we barely spend money on gas. What would be a good option for paying our bills with?
I know I’ve heard of the Citi Custom Cash, Chase Freedom Flex and US Bank Cash+ as well as Discover It but are there any other 5% cards and which one is best?
Edit: wow, the rogers red WE card is incredible, since fido is an eligible service and very affordable. No annual fees either
Here's a summary of my favorite cash-back credit cards after looking at many options today:
Free: highlighting the main benefits as I see them. Feel free to comment
Tangerine mastercard: get 2% cash back on any 3 categories (gas, grocery, dining, bills). Note that costco does not count, I only get 0.5%, which is the cash back for everything else.
Triangle World elite: i think free roadside assistance is the main benefit unless you spend a lot of $$ at triangle stores. Cash back benefits are given in canadian tire bucks.
Simplii cash back visa: 4% dining out (restaurant coffee and bars), 1.5% gas groceries bills and pharmacies. 0.5% for the rest
Paid: these cards all give minimum 1% cash back on purchases and they all cost $120. I'm highlighting only the main benefits as I see them, feel free to comment
BMO cashback WE: 5% grocery up to 500/mo, 3% gas up to 300/mo, 2% bills
Scotiabank momentum visa infinite: 4% grocery and bills, 2% gas
CIBC dividend Visa infinite: 4% gas, 4% grocery, 1% bills
TL:DR: I currently have tangerine world mastercard because of the cash back category system which can be changed every 90 days I think. And I'm getting the scotiabank momentum VI card because I have high recurring bills compared to gas/grocery. This alone pays for the fee for me. My expenses are recurring > grocery > gas > other.
For some context, I’ve been using a basic BMO & MBNA credit card for years and realized I’m missing out on a ton of perks. After researching I settled on Amex Cobalt, however I’d love to get a cash-back credit card for places that don’t accept Amex.
My biggest expenses are recurring bills, dining & airbnbs. What would you guys recommend?
Edit: thanks for the responses! I’ve decided to get a Roger’s World Elite Cash-back card as it’s no fee & I have a Fido account, would be receiving 3% cash back on all purchases.
Amex simplycash preferred and scotiabank’s amex platinum are two
Rogers WE is conditional
Anything else?
Edit: when I said straight, I referred to anything else category
Has anyone developed a solid method for maximizing rewards and cashback on their spending?
For example, combining a great credit card with low fees and high rewards (please give me your suggestions), using apps like Karma or Reebee for cashback on online purchases, and strategically timing purchases around sales.
In this day and age, and by sharing everyone's experiences I feel like we can develop a sort of formula to avoid getting screwed over. I’d love to hear your tips and strategies
Hello everyone, This is my first post here! I’ve been researching credit cards recently, Since I’m planning to add another one to my wallet.
Right now, I have the Simply Financial Cashback Visa, which gives me 4% cashback on bars and restaurants, capped at $5,000 per year.
However, I realized last year that I’m spending over $25,000 annually and didn’t earn much cashback overall. Moving forward, My plan is to maximize rewards by using the gift card trick whenever I can, Unless I can use a credit card directly at the store.
I recently came across the American Express Cobalt Card, And it seems quite appealing. It offers 5x points on eligible grocery store purchases, which effectively translates to 5% cashback. However, It’s a points based card rather than straight cashback card. The redemption system seems fairly simple, You can redeem 1,000 points for a $10 statement credit. My concern is whether this redemption option is permanent or subject to change. If it’s not consistent, The card might not be ideal for me.
Here are the cards I’m considering so far:
-
PC Financial world elite Mastercard, 4.5% Shoppers
-
Roger’s red world elite Mastercard, 3% All purchases
-
American Express cobalt, 5x points on Eats/Drinks including some groceries stores
-
American Express simply cash preferred, 4% Gas/Grocery
-
Scotia Momentum visa infinite, 4% Bills/Grocery
Any suggestions or insights on these cards? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially if you have experience with the Amex Cobalt or other cards on this list. Thanks in advance!
Hey friends,
So I have a surgery coming up next month and some fees aren’t covered by insurance so I have to pay for them myself. I do have all the funds available which is roughly 11k CAD all in.
My question is, what are some of the best cash back credit cards for spending a large amount? The surgeon only accepts cash, credit card, and debit card so I wasn’t planning on spending cash or debit anyway.
I thought maybe I could get something out if I spend the money on a credit card and pay it off after so I get a little bit of extra points or cash back.
Thanks in advance.
I wanted to get the Amex cobalt but some friends are telling me that the signup bonus is a bit low rn and to wait for an offer.
Is there another card that’s worth it?
For reference I’m in the GTA and spend money on going out and groceries. Could also consider using chexy to pay for my rent.
I already have a Scotia passport infinite for lounge access and foreign travel.
