Only giving one PS5 to the boys so any suggestions would be appreciated. I am totally new to the ps5?

Me and some friends have booked a weekend away to just relax and play PS5, so I'm looking for the best couch co-op games that we can buy to play (google isn't being much help, half the games suggested are online only!) We already have Nidhogg, Diablo 3 and Heavenly Bodies, does any one have any other suggestions please?

EDIT: What an amazing response, thank you for all the suggestions! I was hoping to get one or two replies :D

My wife and I were about to replay Outward, split-screen, on the PS5 when it occurred to me that my best friend and his girlfriend should download it too. That way, my wife and I could play on our TV and play with them while they played together on their TV. Come to find out, Outward only supports 2 players in one game at a time.

Are there any games out there that would fit my idea? My wife and I playing together on my TV, along with my best friend and his girlfriend together on their TV. Like a local/online co-op hybrid. If such a thing exists, please let me know!

This question has been asked, but not for a while with decent responses. (2years ago was the most recent I could find with a lot of good replies).

I’m re-asking now for a more current list of 2 player online Co-Op games.

hopefully, with my explanation, this is not seen as annoying.

Hello, my Wife and I currently are struggling to find any more Couch co-op games to play on the PS5. We are big RPG fans. We have played and finished Skyrim Split Fiction It Takes Two Terraria Stardew Valley Skyrim BG3 Diablo 3 and 4 Outward Divinity Original Sin Kingdoms of Amalur

We don't really know where else to go. We are looking for games like WoW that we can play on our own characters sometimes and play together as well. Any recommendations are welcome. Thank you 🙏🏻

I have a friend who lives across the country and we have recently started gaming together periodically. Can you guys recommend good online co-op games for ps4/5? We have played A Way Out and have It Takes Two but I’m looking for more options.

I’d prefer not to do FPS but if that’s the only option, it might work. I really don’t want to get into ones that require us to join a larger party to play since we use it as a time to catch up on life also. Thanks!

At this point I’ve found 2 games that interest me, Black Ops 3 and Balder’s Gate 3. But I’m looking for some other recommendations, as I’ve been told the Black Ops 3 campaign wasn’t very good. I am looking for a good couch co-op game to play with my friend who's not into games and is playing for the first time - we played astro's playroom, she enjoyed it but was struggling with tricky jumps and places where it required to use more than 2 controls (just so you guys get an idea of her experience). I was checking that It takes two is great game, but as far as I checked, I think it would be too overwhelming for her to play it. Plus I don't like split screen and it restricts me to play coop mode only. I am also looking at sackboy - which is coop and not splitscreen which seems great. What do you guys think? Please give suggestions.

Edit: it's just my assumption about the above games. Please correct if I'm wrong. Also, are there any free ones also?

r/PS5 on Reddit: Some ACTUAL overlooked/underrated Co-op games.
January 5, 2024 -

So often do you end up seeing the same names in every single list when people ask for co-op games. Sometimes even the same sites people say to check out for a massive list of co-op games but rarely do you get people who will really tell you what a game is all about and why its worth you and your friends/partners time. Admittedly, we are in a rut on PS5 for abundant Co-op experiences lately but there are good games and experiences out there if you look hard enough!

So I have a list of some that you probably haven't seen mentioned much that are genuinely really fun an deserve much more attention!

WILMOT'S WAREHOUSE

2 Player Local Co-op

Starting off with a very simple but elegantly designed couch co-op game.

You play as a 2D square named Wilmot, managing a warehouse with inventory that are all square pictures and symbols. It works in two sections the first of which is receiving a shipment of items and organizing your warehouse and the second part is fetching items for customers under a 3 minute time limit. The faster you can give the customers their orders, the more stars you receive in which you can upgrade yourself or your warehouse to make organization and inventory management easier. Simple enough, the fun of it to me comes from starting off small with only a handful of items in your warehouse into eventually hundreds of items flooding your warehouse as each new shipment comes in. You have complete freedom to organize how you see fit or what you find efficient by color or shape, or by grouping similar items together that make sense to you. The style of the game makes interpreting an object part of the fun as well since its so simple. What looks like an arrow to you can look like a house to your friend. Definitely a short fun little game that I sunk an entire day into with my partner. Each of us taking a half of the warehouse to manage, the game is split screen so it makes managing your own half feel much more manageable.

WE WERE HERE (SERIES)

2 Player Online Co-op

So this one is actually a pretty interesting experience if you play it the way the developers intend. It's a 3d first person puzzle game series that acts pretty similar to a real life escape room. Throughout all of the games you traverse some type of castle or ruin navigating separately. The catch is that you need to work together to navigate different parts of the areas. Helping each other out by delivering information back and forth for the other person to solve their "room". You can of course talk to each other constantly in a party chat or voice chat however the fun of the game comes from the developers implementing a walk-talky system. Only 1 person can talk at a time by toggling the walkie talkie. You're pretty much always holding it and can see in your field of view when the light on the walkie-talkie comes on from your friend. Most of the puzzles are timed so the stress of trying to navigate a puzzle and trying to make sense of the clues and hints make for a really fun and engaging game that I also burst through in a day when playing one of the games. I was able to get really into it saying "over" after every time I spoke into the walkie-talkie making for some really funny moments. I highly recommend checking it out. Even though the game might look a little dated or unpleasant it genuinely makes for a very fun experience. If you've played keep talking and nobody explodes or enjoy escape room experiences. This one is for you.

KINGDOM TWO CROWNS

2 Player Online/Local Co-op

Man, where to start. This is a side scrolling survival/resource management game where you play a monarch managing a town. Every night you are attacked by these little guys called "greed" who want to steal the crown away from you, if they succeed then your monarch dies and you continue onwards as the next in line. Having to rebuild back up from a close enough starting point from your last monarch. The goal of the game is to survive and defeat the greed. You travel between 5 islands all similar in makeup but all different with the "special" set pieces they have for you to upgrade your playthrough. Defeat the greed on all 5 islands. Win the game. Simple enough right? It's 2D and the greed come from the left and right hand sides and if you're playing Co-op I mean, one person takes the left and the other takes the right, right? Easy.

No, the game has a surprising level of difficulty which really makes it extremely engaging. Gold is the main way you interact with the game and you have to manage it at every step of the game. Upgrade your camp, gold. Find vagrants who can work for you? gold. Chop a tree? Gold. You need gold constantly and managing how you can receive it from only a handful of means becomes the meat of the game the entirety of the time you play. The challenge modes and the dlc also shake up the game just enough for it to continue being fun. It's split screen co-op.

RISK OF RAIN 2

4 Player Online Co-op

A 3rd person action roguelike, where you can choose to play as several classes of a gunner, archer, mage, assassin-esque archetypes. You are placed upon alien planets and you need to get to the end of each area by activating a shrine and defeating a boss. Each world is littered with money, enemies, shrines and other special set pieces that you can spend some type of currency on to potentially improve your run. You are also racing an ever advancing clock which ups the difficulty the longer you take literally taunting you as the clock ticks.

The fun definitely comes from the roguelike elements and also the nearly infinite scalability of powerups. Leading you to feel insanely over powered amongst the chaos of a level. There is such an immense amount of replayability with this game. One that I've shared countless hours with a group of friends playing through. Once you've gone past the "everything is new, gotta explore" mentality it still continues to be thoroughly fun trying to just beat the game or go for endless runs.

ASTRONEER

4 player online Co-op

I think I can see an argument against this game for feeling like there isn't a "game" in a sense or that the controls are abysmal... however, For a 3d person sandbox game where you gather resources and explore planets, I'd say its pretty good. I really enjoy the aesthetic of the game and base building. Trying to organize in a game that doesn't have grid snapping was surprisingly fun. You can terraform the entire planet. Why would you? I dont know, cause its fun. It's a very slow paces game, though in those quieter moments of exploring a cave and plundering all the materials I could, it left a lot of space to just joke and talk. It didn't feel stressful at all playing through the game and I enjoyed that it sometimes acted as background. Don't get me wrong though, there are some planets that had me on the edge of my seat as I tried to explore further into it. You can beat the game, so there is an overarching goal and my group did find enjoyment in the undertaking. Without spoiling much, I think if you want a chill little exploration type sandbox game. This is worth checking out.

UNRAILED

4 Player Local & Online Co-op

This game needs so much more attention! Fortunately it has a sequel coming soon! Hopefully more people can put this on their radar at that point. If you enjoyed something like overcooked, even though these are pretty different, you'd really enjoy this game. A sort of isometric arcade type game where you and your friends have to keep a train going for as long as possible. The screen is pretty static and you all inhabit the screen together seeing the exact same view. Each level increasing in difficulty as you need to clear a path ahead. Someone needs to chop trees, someone to dig rocks, someone to place tracks, someone to cool the trains engine and manage other obstacles ahead of you. The train is its own entity and moves independent of you and the crew getting faster and faster after each checkpoint. You have to keep placing tracks for the train to continue or else you will cause the train to derail and explode. I think normally, there would be a lot of chaos and shouting for people to do their job and help out. However I can't think of many other experiences i've had where my entire group were locked in. Not saying anything. Just focused on trying to make this train go. Having even sighs of relief as we make it to the check point. We took it... probably too seriously but honestly it was such fun with everyone trying to do their jobs the best they could as efficiently as they could. Simple design, executed extremely well. Loads of fun, I've easily put dozens and dozens of hours into this game. Its so fun to just hop in and play a run when everyone has some free time.

DEFENSE GRID 2

2 Player Local & Online Co-op

Surprisingly I don't think you see very many tower defense games on console, let alone a co-op one. I played this one online personally and found it seamless. I think you can control the entire space together or split up the map to both control different spaces. The game looks pretty nice too with its sci-fi aesthetic. You control a military defense grid against waves of Aliens. The neat thing here is that there isn't really a set path for the Aliens. You get to dictate where they go by covering up pathways on the grid, or snaking them along a path of turrets that shred them to bits as they jaunt through it. Each level feels more like a puzzle of where to place your towers than it is actually dealing with the hordes. You mostly want to make the waves take the longest path possible before they are able to steal anything. You can play through the entire campaign in Co-op as well as several challenge modes and there's even some competitive modes. It's been a few years but I still think back on this game fondly. I only played through the campaign once with my partner over the course of several days and I was satisfied but I absolutely can see myself revisiting it soon.

DYSMANTLE

2 Player Local Co-op

Everything is destructible, or just about everything. I was actually shocked by the amount of content in this game and spent a silly amount of time playing it's 2048 clone in-game. An open world resource gathering RPG. Top down perspective but you can change the camera to be more of an angled isometric view. Admittedly, as a co-op game... its a little rough. I found being confined to the same screen a nuisance and also both of us being able to swivel the camera a real pain. If you can manage that, then a real gem of game lies ahead. I spent hours tearing down and level cities for resources and enjoyed the quest lines the game took us through. So much so that I got the DLC for the game which solves so many little quality of life things while ALSO being chock full of more content. I will say, going back to this single player was a much better experience but I still thoroughly enjoyed playing it with my partner. We beat the entire game together and were able to manage by just not moving the camera that much and settling for 1 angle to play the game. Just the fact that you are pretty much dismantling the entire environment is satisfying, literally did it for hours. More than was necessary...

POWER WASH SIMULATOR

2 Player Online Campaign and 6 player free play

The game speaks for itself. As with any "simulation" type games. It shouldn't be as fun as it is. I shouldn't be spending 4 hours cleaning up a skate park in real time. But god damn it... it's so satisfying. I literally just played through this by talking, listening to music, or even listening to audio books and podcast together with a friend. What are you going to do? Draw a dick and tell your friend to come clean up the spot they missed? Yeah.... yeah you're going to do that. The game has a, pretty ridiculous overarching story that I wont spoil. But yeah i don't know what else to say. It's a very accurate power washing simulator. Clean up dirty things. Make em real clean. Squeaky.

CONNECTANK

4 player Local Co-op

I'm surprised to see the 3.6 rating for this on the store as it's pretty fun, the gameplay is pretty rudimentary but I found it getting pretty tough the longer I played. I still really enjoyed it though. The game is a cartoon style arcade run based game? kind of? You operate the inside of a tank and need to deliver ammo to fight against another tank depicted as a different screen up above. The above screen is 2d and the shots move left and right. This shows you the ammo being shot at you as well as other things being shot at you for you to deal with. You mostly engage with the section below by trying to connect conveyor belts together to make a path for you to place ammo that gets carried to the cannon and shoots automatically. The screen above is mostly a preview of what you need to be doing. You can control a switch to aim in different lanes with your cannon. There's a surprising amount of complexity that gets added with different ammo types and needing to counter so you don't get blown up. As well as trying to get rid of debris an enemies or clear out the engine room of any obstacles. I played this before it was taken off of the catalogue and haven't played it since. I do plan on purchasing the game because I did really enjoy it.

JOURNEY TO THE SAVAGE PLANET

2 Player Online Co-op

This game is so weird and silly. It plays as a 1st person adventure game. You are sent to a planet to find a home for humanity. But everything you need to progress throughout your journey is hidden around the planet. There's multiple collectible and a lot of exploration. The game isn't that long but for what it was. It was nice enough, I do wish there was more but I did really enjoy gathering all the collectibles. I also like that I could be at a different pace compared to my partner. It led us to both just exploring different parts of the planet we were on and trying to collect different things. If you want a short little adventure game to play through with a friends, you could knock it out in a weekend.

TRICKY TOWERS

4 Player Online and Local multiplayer.

Tetris but you have to stack up a tower that has physics to it. It weebles, it wobbles. Some of the most fun I've had versus friends. Trying to just out stack one another. Or messing up peoples towers by sending them over debuffs. There's 3 modes to the game. Puzzle which involves trying to get as many pieces below a line. You have to build wide to win, if you can manage to slot in some pieces in an impossible way, you win. However if you drop a piece then your tower moves up by one forcing you to have less space below the line. Race, where you race to the top, whoever manages it first and can keep their tower stable for a few seconds, wins. Your tower can fall repeatedly as its all about who can build the most stable tower. And then one similar to race where you are given a set amount of blocks and you have to place them as fast as possible before the others, however if you drop 3 pieces, you lose. This one is just about being precise and fast. A thoroughly enjoyable spin on tetris that feels wholly unique and fun.

SHIP OF FOOLS

2 player online and local co-op

Cartoon style roguelite where in you play as pirates protecting a ship. Usually top and bottom as you go through levels to get ship upgrades and cannon upgrades. You both share and occupy the screen together as the entire game is pretty visible at all times. To me this game is criminally too short. I would absolutely love at least 2 more maps and bosses towards the end of the game or even that rotated in the middle to make runs a little more interesting. This game has the unfortunate "not enough" problem overall. But what it does have, it does well! I got through it in a day.

I have a ton of other games in my backlog for co-op games. But I wanted to post this for people who are tired of seeing the same "destiny, minecraft, stardew valley, the division, call of duty, it takes two" post allllll the time. While they aren't bad games, if you can google and find 10 articles all saying the same game, I feel your input is redundant here on reddit.

That's all! Hopefully you can find a game among these.

September 15, 2024 -

Every year in the Fall my group of buddies and I stay at my cottage for the weekend to blow off some steam. We are all in our 30’s, have careers and families, so for the weekend we nerd out playing board games, watching horror movies, smoking meat, eating like shit, all while getting high and drunk.

This year I’m bringing my PS5, so I’m looking for some recommendations for fun couch coop games. So far I have Stardew Valley, Golf with Friends, and TMNT Cowabunga Collection. Any other PS5 bangers you guys can think of that would be fitting for such an occasion?

Appreciate any and all recommendations, thanks!

Hi everyone

As per my post title my gaming group (4 of us) are currently at a loss on what to play next. We previously enjoyed Destiny 2 before it became crammed with microtransactions and removed content we'd paid for, and we also enjoyed Stardew Valley and Outriders.

If anyone can recommend any games with a multiplayer campaign or a sandbox nature for up to four player online I'd be incredibly grateful.

Many thanks in advance 😊

Update: Thank you all so much for your suggestions and help, I'm extremely grateful and have plenty of games to choose from now!
