October 7, 2025 - Choose flowers in the same color family with subtle contrast. Overpowering Contrast: The more heavy contrast you have, the more likely your design will look outdated or inexpensive. Think red roses and white baby's breath, a classic (and in my opinion) outdated combination. Instead, pair those same red roses with pink waxflower for a more subtle and modern look.

Diving into the Flower Color Wheel
January 27, 2023 - If you are the sort who appreciates a technical approach and few rules, the color wheel is your best friend! You might consider keeping an actual color wheel in your studio for reference. Generally speaking, hues next to each other on the wheel (analogous colors) will create a soothing effect. Tones opposite each other on the wheel (complementary colors) will bring out each other’s vibrance. You can create even more complex color schemes by combining split-complementary colors (a color plus the two tones adjacent to its complement), such as magenta, green, and yellow.

How to Create Exciting Flower Color Combinations?
You can break down the flower mathematically into different amounts of color and use them accordingly in your garden. If we look closely at the earlier image of the lily, we could decide to use orange as our main color and red as a neutral. Or vice versa. The violet that you'll find at the tip of the stamens would be an excellent accent color for the combination of deep red and orange.

r/AnimalCrossingNewHor on Reddit: What are your favorite breed and color combos for flowers?
December 8, 2023 -

I am working on decorating my island and cannot decide what color combinations of flowers I want to use! Or which breeds to choose.

Here are some ideas I’ve been considering:

  • White and purple. Maybe white around the island, and a field of purple hyacinths to represent a lavender farm.

  • Yellow and pink. This would be bright and cute, but might not look as suitable in winter.

  • Green mums and white. This would be kind of subdued and cute, and would look nice throughout the seasons.

  • Blue and white, but only on the beaches (and other colors on the rest of the island). To give a kind of nautical vibe.

  • Black and white. This might be best if I contain it to one area, like the cemetery yard I plan to build for Lucky.

Please share your opinions and suggestions! I’d love to know what your favorite color and flower combos are, and what you have on your own island.

Using a Color Wheel to Select Flowers for Your Garden
If you will be using your garden often after dark be sure to include a healthy dose of white flowers and silver foliage. These plants will show well in the evening. The easiest color plan to pull off is probably the monochromatic color scheme. Which is simply combining shades of a single color together to create a garden bed.
