I was also sleeping hot and made some significant changes to my bed. I love my memory mattress just for the comfort. So, I bought a wool mattress topper, cotton percale sheets, a silk duvet and use either a cotton or cotton/linen duvet cover. We also have a wool duvet that my husband seems to like more than the silk but doesn’t really care. I truly believe that using natural instead of synthetic materials has made a huge difference. Hey fellow furnaces of the night! I'm on the hunt for a legit cooling comforter that won't turn into a sweat trap by 2 AM. I've narrowed it down to two options but could use real-user experiences before pulling the trigger.

Option 1: Bedsure Cooling Comforter

  • Claims to use "3D airflow technology"

  • Bamboo-derived rayon cover

  • Medium weight (good for year-round use?)

Option 2: Evercool Comforter

  • Specifically markets to menopausal women (I'm not one, but if it works...)

  • "Phase-change" cooling fibers

  • Lightweight design

About me:

  • Sleep HOT (like, wake-up-drenched hot)

  • Mostly a side sleeper

  • Prefer something that doesn't feel plasticky

  • Need machine-washable

Anyone out there a hot sleeper that still gets a little cold/likes to be cozy in bed?? Because that’s me!!

¯_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno, it is what it is haha I just want to be cozy and stop sweating lol

I’m usually a little cold until I fall asleep (I prefer to sleep at 69F/20C), at which point, I start giving off a lot of body heat! My partner is also a hot sleeper!

I’d prefer a natural material over synthetics, if possible! I also like the weight of a heavier duvet, I just get so dang hot! I also currently have a linen duvet cover, if that makes a difference.

Would love to hear any recommendations!!

My partner and I run very hot at night and can’t seem to find the right comforter. We live in a pretty warm area year round and don’t have A/C or a heater. Our biggest problem is we want something light and fluffy thats soft on your skin, and gives you that ‘hotel cloud comforter’ type feeling, but can also keep us cool in the summers and warmer in the winters. It seems like a lot of the temperature regulating ones are thinner and not always as cozy as you want them to be? I’ve heard of trying a wool one as those seem to be the best for temp, but I’m worried we would get too hot especially in the summers. Appreciate any and all suggestions!!

Hey everyone, I need some help! I tend to overheat at night, especially during the summer, and my current comforter just isn’t cutting it. I wake up feeling sweaty and uncomfortable, and I’m looking for a lightweight, breathable comforter that actually stays cool. There are so many options out there—bamboo, cotton, down alternative, moisture-wicking fabrics—it's honestly overwhelming. What materials or specific brands have worked best for you?

While searching online, I came across this post that lists some of the top-rated summer comforters. It seems like a good starting point, but I’d love to hear real experiences from people who have actually used them. Any insights would be super helpful!

I'm looking for something more cooling, as I get so warm at night. My room is the warmest in the house and I've tested it several degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the living room. I have the vent blowing but it doesn't work well.

Well I have a cotton comforter but it's a bit thick and I'm thinking to swap it out. Every brand I look into seems to have pros and then there is one or several comments with major cons. Here is what I've looked into so far.

Peru Pima: This one flew under the radar and I wasn't able to find much online but the people who had them did love them. I found a few comments saying they lost their softness after a wash and began to pill.

Rest Evercool: This one has tons of controversy, not being cooling, customer service, pilling, etc. At a glance it looks perfect but I'm not inclined to buy based on price and complaints.

Aeptom Eucalyptus Lyocell Comforter: An option I found after some digging but doesn't have much to back it up.

Sijo Clima TempTune Comforter: This comforter seems to fit the bill but there are complaints of returning and customer service being a nightmare.

And then there's a lot of opinions and reviews saying bamboo, but bamboo is really rayon and bad for you, cotton is the way to go, but then that rabbit hole goes deep too :P

Having to weed out who actually enjoys their comforter, and who is a paid ad, damn! What a world we live in. I feel bad for those who are less internet-savvy.

Can anyone recommend a cooling comforter or blanket that is high quality and not super thick? (if it's thick but cooling that's fine [I'm looking for something to keep me cool]).

TLDR: I can't find a good cooling comforter. Can anyone recommend or do you have any reviews based on the brands I mentioned?

My partner and I live in an oven of an apartment and we can’t afford the light bill anymore to blast the A.C., so we need to upgrade and invest in a sleeping system that can keep us cool through the night.

We currently have cotton and polyester blend sheets and are looking to change them and our duvet as well.

I keep seeing that silk sheets are recommended for hot sleepers but I don’t know which brand is the best to keep us cool and that doesn’t fall apart after a few washes.

I’m also not sure which direction to go in with the duvet. On one hand I like how comfy really soft duvets are but I also wouldn’t mind something with more weight to it since we both have anxiety. Either way we need something that won’t trap heat. Help please!

Take the duvet off the bed and just use sheets in the summer. There's no such thing as a not hot duvet, that's the point of the duvet. It might take a few tries to get used to it but I promise you a human being can sleep just fine under only a sheet. Air is the insulator, not the material the sheet or duvet is made out of. Materials that trap air within them give a layer of insulation that is proportional to how much air they trap. A thick ass duvet is going to make you hot, doesn't matter if it's coated in silk or cotton. Down is hot because the little feather fluffs are evolutionarily designed to trap as much air as possible with as little material as possible. It's not intrinsic to the materials feathers are made of. Silk can be just as hot as cotton if the weave is tight and the threads are as heavy, but usually it's a looser weave of thinner threads. If you want more weight on top of you (I hate it but whatever) just get a weighted blanket. You can't have a big fluffy duvet on top of you and be cool. That's just thermodynamics.

No suggestions because I am going through the same being extremely hot in my husband and I’s bed. I posted something similar a couple weeks back and got these suggestions: using a quilt instead of a duvet, regardless of if you get a silk duvet (many people said you can still get hot) bamboo sheets bed jet system getting away from polyester made mattress and/or memory foam Hope this helps! Also commenting so I can see suggestions made!

So my partner and I are both hot sleepers, him more so than I. In fact, he might be a furnace in human form.

Our mattress is a queen sized 10 inch memory foam from Zinus. It’s comfortable, we have no complaints. We have tried a few different materials for sheets, the top ones being a 400 thread count from target, 800 thread count from Costco, and a flannel type set of unknown origins.

It gets pretty hot when we sleep, but I’m a tropical being and love the warmth. Poor partner, however, gets so hot that he sweats through the sheets and then wakes up because he’s lying in a wet patch essentially. Moving out of it means moving closer to me and that makes the heat problem worse! We also end up having to do laundry pretty frequently, but that’s not a problem.

What can we do or buy to sleep a little cooler? We don’t want to spend too much monies on it because our current room only allows a queen, and we’d like to be in a king eventually.

Please share some tips on what possible mattress upgrade, sheet set, etc we can invest in that’ll improve our sleeping experience.

Gracias amigos!

EDIT: typos and grammar

The number one thing you should do if you are struggling with heat is change your mattress. Memory foam holds a TON of heat, it’s notorious for exactly what you’re describing. Flannel is also a material intended for cold weather use, it will keep you v warm

When I became a grandmother I also was going through menopause. I had showered the new family with luscious blankets I could never afford with my kids, because GRANDMA. I quickly fell absolutely in love with the muslin blankets and swaddlers he had. In the summer, when I was warm and sticky, and the last think I needed was a warm bundle of skin pressed up against my skin, that light layer between us wicked away moisture and kept me cool. It also kept the cool air of the airconditioner off of my skin. (I have a chronic pain condition and cold hurts) When my husband and I moved to Missouri, and I was living in hot humidity for the first time in my life, I was miserable. That was when I discovered I could get adult size muslin blankets on Amazon for quite reasonably. I first got a twin size to use on the couch. I quickly added a king size blanket for the bed. You can choose how many layers of muslin you get. I like 2 in the summer. We sleep with only the blanket. No top sheet. Because my spouse and I sleep at different temperatures, we sleep with separate covers on the bed half of the year anyway. (That is a common way to sleep in Scandanavian countries.) He currently has a duvet in a duvet cover. I currently sleep under the large blanket folded in half. (Which gives me 4 layers). This seems to be pretty ideal for the in-between seasons here. Changing up our bedding, feeling able to ditch the top sheet (which I grew up with as essential) and giving up making the bed with one traditional matching bedspread or comforter really has helped us BOTH sleep better. We also snuggle more, since I am less likely to be overwhelminly warm.

So my partner recently moved in with me, and we have been having a bit of sleep struggle. Here's the problem:

He hates top sheets, he refuses to use one and prefers just a duvet. Totally fine with me, I'm indifferent to them.

I am the hottest sleeper alive, and wake up with my hair fully wet from sweat.

I also like to sleep under fluffy blankets with a decent amount of weight, which does not bode well for my sweaty ass.

We got a fluffy cotton duvet and it's very comfortable, and before it got warm out, we were sleeping just fine together. But as it gets warmer, I've been finding myself waking up feeling gross and sticky, with a film of sweat over my entire body. Losing clothes doesn't work. We have a Purple Plus mattress, which is way better than memory foam in terms of heat, but the duvet is causing trouble for me.

Is there any fluffy comforter that will help my body circulate air without it being a thin waffle-weave blanket or something? I prefer something cushy and luxurious feeling instead of just a thin blanket. I've also debated getting the BedJet, but we would not be using the sheet that comes with it since my partner hates top sheets so much. Would the BedJet be okay under just a comforter?

Sorry for the very specific question, but I appreciate any insight or recommendations!

Hi all!

I’m a very very hot sleeper, under a nice cool sheet and a comforter I am waking up in a furnace of human heat even with it 57° in my bedroom.

I’ve been doing some research and it looks Brooklinen and Casper have some great options. Also it seems avoiding synthetic materials is highly recommended to keep from holding heat.

Casper has one that is wool-lined to wick moisture away with a light down fill. https://casper.com/bedding/duvets/humidity-fighting-duvet/buy/

And Brooklinen is a bit cheaper (and bonus has a longer return policy) https://www.brooklinen.com/products/down-comforter

I do prefer a little more weight than just a sheet…

Have you had any luck with comforters/duvets/etc for such a hot sleeper? I am in the south, spring has barely popped up, but it will get hot and it will get very humid and I’m tired (no pun intended) of not getting sleep because I’m a human lava.

I've been looking on reddit and other places online, and have realized its hard to find exactly what I'm looking for. I want a comforter that is not a duvet insert that I don't need to buy a duvet cover for. Other than that, my main requirements are that it is not warm (I'm a hot sleeper), and is machine washable.

I've been reading recommendations about bamboo, silk, or a lower percentage down comforter but I don't care too much about material as long as its soft and sleeps cool.

Final thing I realized I should include is that my budget is ~$200. Does anyone have recommendations or places I should be looking?

The problem is that about 99% of comforters are polyester-filled (or plastic-based if you want to get technical about it). Comforters and Duvet Inserts are close cousins (and sometimes are the same thing, ngl) so it becomes confusing for many people when they search for comforters and find that an insert is basically labeled as a comforter. Sometimes the 'comforters' will have ties/loops on the ends to help attach it inside of the duvet, and other times it won't. It is pretty frustrating for many people that are looking specifically for just duvet inserts or just comforters (with fill material inside of them). I just basically have taken to calling anything with fill that has no loops/ties a comforter since that's what the majority of them are. It's just the norm: Comforters with a color/pattern on them (that's not just white) tend to be poly-fill 9 times out of 10. Poly-fill, unfortunately, really, really sucks at temp regulation. It usually traps heat, is horrible to dry (plastic doesn't do well expelling water or with high heat b/c it will melt), and will clump over time inside the comforter (especially if you wash it) and then you'll be left with a lumpy mass. I had a comforter from Chic Home that was polyfill and microfiber for years and had no clue what I was getting into with it until I had it for a few months and the deed had been done, so to speak. Ok; here's a question that will make or break this whole dilemma of yours: Do you want your comforter to have a pattern on it (like a detailed colored pattern/image) or do you want just a white comforter (like most inserts look like)? Are you OK with a comforter that is just solid colors (or 2-toned, at the most)? That, more than anything, will determine what direction we can proceed in, because if you want a patterned comforter then the chances of you finding one without poly-fill that will overheat you at night will be very, very slim :( Let me know and I'll do my best to help you find something that will work for you depending on the circumstances.

I recently bought a lyocell comforter called "Buffy Cloud." I think it's terrific. Lyocell is evidently made from eucalyptus, and it's great for those of us who sleep hot. The company also sells an even lighter one called "Buffy Breeze" for folks who live in hot climates. To me, the difference between a comforter and a duvet insert is washability. The Buffy Cloud is machine washable. (Evidently older versions were not.)
